    Default Regarding opening the medieval.preference.cfg file to unlock factions

    Hi all!

    I've now purchased the Limited Edition of MTW II and like it.

    One question:

    To unlock all factions the med.pref.cfg file must be opened and code need be added.
    How does one do this?

    Double click the file and it should open in notepad. You can then insert the required lines at the end of the file.

    Code:
    [misc]

    unlock_campaign = true
    BTW, one strange thing is that after running the game, those lines then disappear from the .cfg file. But the other factions remain unlocked.

    Just go into your data->world->maps->campaign->imperial_campaign folder and click on descr_start.txt. Right at the top is a list of unlocked, unlockable, and unplayable factions. Just Copy and paste all the faction names to the 'playable' section and delete them from the other sections.

    This method also lets you play as the Pope, Aztecs, Timurids, and Mongols (the .cfg file only unlocks the unlockable factions) though I don't recommend trying since they aren't properly implemented.

    The easiest way to do this is to just delete lines 10 and 11 from the descr_strat.txt file. The file is read only so change the attribute prior to editing.

    There's that "unlocked.txt" file in the campaign directory. It changes slightly in size when you do this, so I'd imagine it does something to that file, then removes the line from the med.pref.cfg.

    Strange, I can't change that file. My PC says that it's a read only file and can't be changed. Anyone with an idea about what's up with that? Thanks.

    The *.cfg file you should be able to change. The descr_strat.txt is read only - the forum FAQ explains how to switch it off (basically, right click file, properties, untick read only and you're done).
