I have the same in Zaragossa, a powerful rebel army sitting there for about 30 turns now. I haven't tried yet to attack them from the other side, or auto resolve, which might work.

Yep, there're also several of such spots in Scotland and the middle of Italy.
i took an overwhelming force to make them retreat on the campaign map and fight them where i could actually touch them
btw, it was 2 squares W of Zaragoza, i just checked. I had attacked from the square E, the only 2 other directions to attack from are N and NE i think, maybe NW too. i imagine they'd still be up there and me way down here, although i can't test because i don't have a savegame file of it.
