This is too big and we are too busy with 0.8 to really do anything with this. Sorry. This is a beta and so are main concern is with getting things into the game, and this doesn't allow any time for creating guides. When 1.0 is complete perhaps we'll be able to release full guides for each faction. Perhaps if you had a more specific query we would be able to answer it.

I`m no modder, but perhaps because the building system has been completely revamped from the last build, and because the building system that will be implemented in the 0.8 build is completely different to previous versions... which may have brought changes to the building tree...

    Cheers!

    EDIT: already answered... doh!

Okay, could someone provide me with a Roman building browser, complete with descriptions of what these buildings do?

Roman building descriptions are pretty complete I don't see why you can't figure it out for yourself personally thats half the fun for me but to each there own.

Really, there already is such a thing in game: just where the little buildings advisor icon is located... Although not complete, it still provides you with a brief description of the most important buildings, and especially when it comes to basic structures it's just what you need - nothing more, and nothing less than that.

Besides if any description exceeds a certain amount of lines then the EB team kindly has provided some strategy tips about that building too. Usually located either at the very top or at the very bottom of the description, so no problem finding them at all...

Unless it is different in 0.8 that internal browser is pretty poor. You are probably better off going into the txt files or just paying very close attention in game.

Maybe, but at least for me it's sufficient when it comes to the religious structure of some deity of which I don't know the first thing about. Okay, I wouldn't use it for the Romans, because their buildings are so well known - and I can translate a little Latin as well, but when facing shrines to 'Marduk', I glimpsed at the brief description: what will the final bonus of this temple type be?

In this case: lot's of extra public order + extra tax >> the best temple type the Seleukids have for any region far away from the capital.

Anyway, often it's a sufficient to reading the cost involved, the translation of the buildingname and it's in game effects only, when deciding what you're going to build next.

It's more fun though to read the whole description and to be further enlightened - it gives such a nice feel of completeness, when you're playing as some faction and you actually know (or as far as is possible with EB) what everything is and was about. It also shows how much effort has gone into this mod to make it as complete and accurate as possible.

When we use "and not" as a conditional in a building level, that level won't show up in the building browser. When "branches" or paths are used we are required to use "and not" in building levels to stop error messages too. So lots of buildings just won't show up in the browser. There's nothing we can do about that. BUT we did make a change in govt buildings which got rid of a bunch of "and not"s, so you will be seeing more actually - but all of that is a side product of another change, and I don't think we will actively be seeking to make the building browser work better as it would have too many fruity reprecussions on our buildings by removing those paths and "and not"s.

I think hes talking about the conditions for a building be able to be built. For example for walls you need the previous teir. In RTW all buildings either had requirements or no requirements. Wheras in the EB build hes talking about some of the needs for a building being able to be built is not having a building. Like if you dont want sparta to have walls you could have a unique building that makes it impossible for sparta to make walls by having in the walls properties that in order to build it the city must not have the unique building that sparta has.

They might use different methods though.

An example: say you don't want farms to be available in the desert. (All desert provinces have the "desert" hidden resource already in them.) If you put on the requirements for farms, "and not hidden_resource desert" then they will be available everywhere but provinces with the "desert" hidden resource. Due to the way RTW's building browser works, doing this, farms would not appear on it.

So what you are saying is, that if there are branches in the "building tree" only one of the branches can be shown in the building browser, to fight error messages.

Which means that if I have a building which gives me two building options, only one of these options will be shown in the BROWSER. Both of the buildings would be buildable, but the other building must be hidden in the browser by the scripters because otherwise there would be error messages due to the nature of RTW.

Example: I build a temple, which enables a larger temple and a hospital. Only the temple will be shown in the building browser, hospital is hidden in it but nonetheless shown and buildable at the build menu.

Hope that clears this up for everyone.

Yeah, paths totally mess the browser up. Not that big of a deal though. You'll always be able to see what buildings are available at any given time in the construction menu though.
