Default Why no land bridge to UK?

Im playing as England as my first campaign and have just realised that there is no land bridge from the continent to England, there is one from Scotland to Ireland and seemingly everywhere else but none to England?
Also why have land bridges at all?

They probably wanted to represent the English control over the channel, stopping French invasions with their ships. It also makes England hard to invade, which means an easier and less stressful campaign for the English.

Land bridges make expansion easier for the AI. That's one reason to love them, but they also make your life easier, although that's not as significant in my view.

This had me pondering for some time but the simplest answer is probably the most likely:

The other land bridges are probably there for a large part to allow the AI to do Crusades (and jihads) without having to negotiate with the sea and thus boats.

The lack of an English land bridge is probably there as the English is a "choice" faction, especially for beginners, and the lack of a bridge allows for expansion within the whole of the UK (modern) without having to worry too much about mainland Europe.

There is, as I suspect rather more of a happy coincidence than deliberate planning. also some historical notes of interest with regard that, so it isn't too a-historical. (The British Isles are an Island after all - although the counter argument is obviously the comparison of the channel against the straits of Gibraltar, the Bosphorous and so forth)

But, yes, I think its not there simply to make playing the English somewhat "safer", certainly the Scots, Irish and Welsh don't seem to be empowered with any form of aggression (which is most definitely not historically accurate!) so any ENglish player can reasonably safely establish a secure base of operations (Inquisitors pending)

Actually in my game most AI crusades go by boat...I was quite surprised to see this!
