Requesting Crusade

I on turn 45 or so as Venice. No crusades have occurred yet.

I am now at war with Byzantine. I would like to declare a crusade against them. Can I ask the Pope for a crusade? If so, exactly how do I do it?

Click on your faction icon, then open the pope Tab. Next to the current Pope's avatar, you'll see a button which is called ''request a crusade''.

However, do note that you need to have good relations with the Pope to have a chance to get the requested crusade.

No Idea for MTW2 but in the first one the pope would not always grant a Crusade VS an Orthodox faction but as far as I know never turned one down for a muslim faction. So even if you in good favour but the Byzantines are too he may deny the request, if it can be factored in.
