Thread: Recruiting Generals

    Default Recruiting Generals

    How do we recruit generals?

I am talking about generals who don't become family members.

The only way I have figured out is to bribe them-

If you marry a princess to any character they join your family

Adoption obviously = joined to the Familia

Man of the Hour = Adoption = Part of the Family

HRE is my preferred catholic faction because it starts with three generals.

Also, if you marry Prince Henry of the HRE to the Danish Princess at the start of the campaign and don't adopt anyone they will almost always squeeze out a whole gaggle -up to four- of daughters who will come of age as princesses

The QUESTION again - Are there any other ways to get my hands on some generals?

At the beginning of a French campaign the Council of Nobles told me that a General had set his eyes on one of the princesses and asked me to marry them. I gladly performed the mission, pleasantly surprised that it was in the game.

But then I looked around and realized that there would never be another "General" in my kingdom again.

There are so few uses for the princesses at this point, since it's so easy for family members to get marriage prompts that foreign princesses are useless and it's difficult to find unmarried heirs for your own princesses, and also there's very little concern for loyalty due to everybody being a family member, leaving very little use for the females.

In adopting son-in-laws, my daughters always make wretched wives and bring all sorts of negative traits such that I don't think the "royal ties" trait is worth it.

I'd think it would make more sense if adoption was changed to promotion of generals. That way the princesses would be very useful and the royal line would not have to be filled with every single govenor and army leader.....

I agree, and I would have liked it to have been tied in with Titles. The main reason William The Conquerer and later Kings were able to control England was to reward Generals with Titles i.e. Baron, Earl etc and this could have been linked to the council of nobles. Then you would only marry your princess to a noble and not any old general.

i always have an abundance og generals- just try and get man of the hour often. fight rebels or any enemy army tyhat you feel confident about without using a general and you will soon start picking up loads of "man of the hour"s.

it seems to me this happens much more readily than in RTW particularly on hard campagin setting. you dont generally need to be the weaker army. I get alot og generals by auto-resolving battles with rebels.

My "man of the hour"s always end up being adopted when I "promote" them. Maybe if I had four children under every family member (they will all full) my men of the hour would just become generals, but that just plain sucks if that is the only way to obtain non family generals
