Thread: General's traits near useless in M2TW?

Default General's traits near useless in M2TW?

Maybe its just me but has anyone else noticed the traits your General has (command rating, confident defender etc.) seem to have alot less effect in M2TW than in any of the other TW games? I noticed it immidiately, Generals with very high rating on the battlefield will sometime be brought down relatively easily by simply foot soldiers (not spearmen), even after the enemy has been broken and starting to wavier. Same goes for lower ranked generals, sometime they will wipe out entire legions of enemy soldiers without even getting scratched. I liked the generals in Shogun and RTW, they seemed to be invincible at the higher levels.

General's are far better in M2TW especially the foot ones. But they all only have a few hitpoints, charging a spear unit is probably going to get him killed, especially if they get bogged down. If you want a powerful general get him all those variations of the scared line, there's more of them now.

I'm sure there are plenty of times in RTW where a 10 star general was brought down by velite's.
Wine is a bit different, as I am sure even kids will like it.

The effects of generals traits and the likelihood of generals dying are completely separate issues.

I suspect generals have got more vulnerable in M2TW compared to RTW, because heavy cavalry has got more vulnerable and the generals' unit is heavy cavalry.

I don't have a feel for whether general's command stat has been watered down (IIRC, CA intended it to affect morale only in RTW, but found the effect to weak and so made it affect the unit attack stat too.).

I do miss influence and acumen, although chivalry/dread is fun to roleplay and I wish I could raise piety, as those inquisitors are nasty.

Yeah me too! I never had problems with them until a few turns ago when 1 inquisitor took out three of my top generals (including my faction heir). That was the end, I started paying tribute to the Papel States and gave them some region I didnt want. Haven't had problems with inquisitors since and have my own pope now.
