What's the reason behind the minor casualties incurred by missile units while engaging non-missile units at range? Is there an Olympic standard YS in the game or is the Battlefield Ninja already among us?
Also-this may have been dealt with before-what are the chances/ratios etc of musketeers/archers hitting their own men engaged in a melee with the missile units target?

ShadowKill-san is right. Archers tend to shoot each other in the back, especially if they're shooting uphill. Some even die in the rearmost row: no, I have no idea. Musketeers and such may have their weapons explode on them. And so forth.

We have no exact ratios, as we have no exact number on anything, really. But shooting into a melee always kills some of your own: however, it's possible to fire muskets right through your own men and they still incur *relatively* few casualties.

Some of the friendly casualties that musketeers and arquebusiers inflict on their own forces can be explained with a single, very simple fact:

The men in the front lines fart, thus releasing methane clouds into their ranks. When the rear gunners discharge their weapons, the sparks and fire from said discharge ignites the methane clouds, thus causing a 'sanda bom' effect -- an explosion in their midst. This explosion can kill if it occurs near the face of one of the gunners.

Lastly, since the fire emmitted from the firearms is relatively low, please realize that the 'puffs' of smoke you see in the game are in fact human-borne methane clouds bursting in mid air.

To reduce the chances of this turning into a frying pan for your own men, do the following:
    1. Place gun units in a 1-row deep formation.
    2. Place gun units far away from your own men -- at least 30 rows away.
    3. Place gun units in loose formations.

    Hope this helps.
