Default Foreign armys camping on my territory

    Hi people,

I got a problem with allied armies. Almost every faction I am allied with puts troops in my provinces without having military access. Now most of the time they do nothing, but it's still kind of scary, since you never know when they might turn on you. So now my question is: Is there any diplomatic possibility to tell them to get off my land. I can't find any such option, but I bet, if I did the same with my armies they would be quite angry.

There's no diplomatic option to tell them to leave as in the Civ games.Once i see that happening i usually take it as a sign that that faction has little regard for me and war maybe looming.
I usually send a diplomat to them.In my current game as the English the French, who were my allies, were doing that a lot around Caen. When my diplomat approached them their priority was 'war'.Sure enough a few turns later....

Does anyone know if camping neutral armies cause visible "devastation" to your lands over time like hostile ones do?

Also, anyone noticed if the devastation is just a graphical thing or do you lose income like in RTW? I have not spotted a "devastation" item on the settlement details, but it would be strange to take out that feature when you are adding in a graphical depiction. Maybe it's hidden?

Does the devastated region "grow back"? It's turn 90 in my game and it hasn't yet.

Neutral armies don't cause devastation, and devastation does recover. It's just very slow about it, and the bigger the area the longer it takes. Look at the city details. Under income, it'll show "Devastation" in the loss column, and if you hover your mouse pointer over the icons, a tooltip will tell you how much income you lost this turn due to devastation. It drops slowly.

Usually, sending a few of your own troops right next to them without actually attacking sends the message. They'll either go home, or attack outright.
Anything wrong ? Blame it on me. I'm the French.

I find that when they start to do this, it means they are probeing you and will attack if they think they can win. If they are like walking right up to cities then thats defently a sign they are probeing. Either send an army next to them like Kobal said or hope for the best :P

RTW had the same problem and it was a little annoying, and potentially disastrous if the AI decided to attack you after a while. If possible, put forts on chokepoints that lead to their territory. I imagine there isn't much else you can do.

It does provide an incentive to upgrade your walls, though.

I tried to incite a war against the Scottish full stack that was standing right next to my near full stack defended York by withdrawing most of the garrison back to Nottingham.
What happened? The Scottish army actually ran away back into Scotland!
So aside from the obvious 'they are going to attack' its possible that it does that sometimes when the AI sees you building up in provinces on the border?
maybe those guys should be doing something more useful...

Diplomacy is sadly one aspect that the Civ series has the upperhand on.Though the MTW2 system is getting pretty close.

Why would I want to do that? Better to let them lay siege to the city and then hit them with an army from another city, pinning them between two forces.
