I have never played RTW
It's the same as RTW; autoresolved all the way.
Dunno if it's gotten fairer though, I haven't started a Grand Campaign yet...

No, it's not playable. The same thing as in Rome...

It's autoresolve as everyone has said, but there seems to be a ton of pirates around making it necessary to build up fleets. Just places a bit more emphasis on it at least.
Yeah naval combat is auto-resolve with no withdrawing. They should make a naval combat based on rise and fall's., in that you can board enemy ships and ram them as opposed to games like aoe, in which naval combat is boring.

This is more a suggetion rather than a reply, but I think it very relevant to the topic.
Why not make upgrades for the ships e.g. a galley with a ballista, rigging for archers (you would have to train the archers). Upgrades that would make a almost defenseless ship into something with a bit more oomph.
I also think that if this stuff is done now, then in the future when it is possible to play naval combats, there is less work to do overall and it may be a huge headstart in getting naval combats playable.
Please tell me if I am being an idiot or a genius (but please do it politely)
i was really disappointed when naval warfare was not playable.......it would have made the best game ever made the best overall object or thing ever

Like you already know its not playable... Why? Nobody knows, except exceptions...
I think that game would be more perfect if there were naval battles.
It would be more fun.
