    1. You have two types of settlements: cities and castles. Cities will generate more income, but castles are also needed because there you can build better units, needed to expand your empire.

The buildings that improve income are: land clearance + the upgrades; roads; ports, shipwerves (hope I spelled that correct), markets, grain exchange, etc. Don't forget buildings that increase public order, especially in the cities, because they'll allow you to put the tax rates on high or very high, without causing too much unrest.

I'd suggest building the land clearance and the roads first, they'll give you the most benefits. Send out your diplomates to get as much trade rights possible from other factions.

    2. You cannot play the campaign on MP, only battles are playable on MP

    3. The rebels are not playable.

Make sure you check the M2TW guides section in the Entrance Hall for more help and tips.

There are also usefull threads in the Citadel.

    Welcome Myst

The answer to your third question is probably yes, however it is important to note that you cannot win as the rebels and they are heavily scripted, this can cause many CTDs (that stands for crashes to desktop).

To play as the rebels open up your C:/Program Files/Sega/M2TW folder/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt
When you open it, it read:
    Code:
campaign imperial_campaign playable england france hre spain venice end unlockable sicily milan scotland byzantium russia moors turks egypt denmark portugal poland hungary end nonplayable papal_states aztecs mongols timurids slave end
    Change in so it says:
    Code:
campaign imperial_campaign playable england france hre spain venice sicily milan scotland byzantium russia moors turks egypt denmark portugal poland hungary slave end nonplayable papal_states aztecs mongols timurids end
Then start a campaign with the rebels like you would start a campaign with any other faction. However, as mentioned above, playing the rebels causes the game to be very buggy. This method also only works in theory and not necessarily in practise (I haven't got the game yet so I am still yet to try this).

There's no point playing as slaves there too weak and once the game starts it's a free for all where your towns are the target. You maybe able to get control of the sea though as the rebels have good fleets.

Good luck with that, because I seriously doubt CA would make one.

If you look inside the descr_strat you see "gladiator_uprising_disabled" and "marian_reforms_disabled" now I wonder what'd happen if they we're enabled.

and the description for Milan is:

    Milan

The city of Rome has a violent foundation legend, one that mirrors much of the political and military infighting that happens between the great families of Rome. Romulus murdered Remus for jumping over the walls of the city, and then named himself King and renamed the city in his own honour. The patrician families of Rome claim descent from the adventurers, exiles and warriors Romulus recruited to help establish his city. The Scipii should be numbered among these ancient bloodlines.

They are not, perhaps, of quite the first rank, although this in itself means that they are keen to prove themselves the equal of any other Romans, but they are certainly among the optimates, the aristocracy of the city, and have been for many generations. They are important people, used to the privileges of rank and the usages of power, both to further Rome’s ambitions and that of their own family. They have also produced able politicians and generals – the two go hand-in-hand in Rome, as political success rarely comes without success on the battlefield.

They are, however, unusual in a couple of respects for a Roman family of the old ways. Firstly, they are extravagantly wealthy. Wealth is one thing, and this always brings power with it, but their use of wealth has sometimes surprised more conservative Romans (and Romans are nothing if not conservative). The Scipii also have a taste for Greek learning and culture, again something that surprises and concerns the conservative elements. Nevertheless, despite these un-Roman ways, the Scipii have the political skills and military competence to make their family greatest in Rome, and possibly the rulers of the known world. They may only directly control a couple of provinces in Italy and Sicily, but their ambitions are boundless... and realistic.

So it's just a edited version of Rome total war on a new graphics engine.
