Allies

I’ve tried to no avail to get my Allies to help me in battle. I play as England. Currently my Allies a Milan and Spain, among others. I’ve looked at their Allies and Enemies and there are no conflicts of interest. How can I get them to help me in battle? I can understand them not helping with Scotland, but c’mon France is pretty tough. Is there anything that I can do to encourage other factions to help me?

Have you tried using a Diplomat to ask Spain to attack Faction: France? How much this costs will depend on many factors but it could be worth it?

I got the Papal States into a war against the Moors last night, and I didn't ask them. A Moorish navy was sitting next to a Papal fleet when I attacked it. I allied with the Papal States early on in the game. Two allies adjacent to the same attacked stack=assistance in the battle. Therefore, the Papal States was now at war with the Moors. I attacked a French fleet in the same way, and the Papal fleet assisted there too. The next turn the French were excommunicated.
