A simple question really, have night battles been included in 0.8??

No, I think only BI can include night battles
but I could be wrong
BI, I think, is the only one with regular night battles, but I'm pretty sure there was a guide on how to get them into 1.5.
No. I think they may be in the patch 0.81.Originally Posted by Markus_Aurelius

If the team can put in the necessary traits for the benefit of people who play the game through the BI exe without there being problems with the plain RTW, neat. Or make some sort of "minimod" trait file for those using BI or something.![]()
But I know I can do without.

I and many others around the world are of the strong belief that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster. --- Proof of the existence of the FSM, if needed, can be found in the recent uptick of global warming, earthquakes, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. Apparently His Pastaness is to be worshipped in full pirate regalia. The decline in worldwide pirate population over the past 200 years directly corresponds with the increase in global temperature. Here is a graph to illustrate the point."

Weird. Simple question, many answers. I believe the simple answer is "no".
i think the simple answer was the best. Thanks
The traits are already there, but commented out. I think the team wanted to remove the torches or something before having night battles and that's why they are disabled for now.
No, torches are a BI only thing, I've played night battles in 1.5 without torches. They simply need to be activated.

what is it with night battles... i never understood the need for them... well i never played a very profund BI campaign...do i get any advantage by doing a night battle? attacking and defending aspect?

It has been a long time since I modded night battles into 1.5 using some guide here on the forums, but this is what I remember.
Night battles are trait that certain generals have, which allows them to fight at night occasionally. Armies led by generals or captains without this trait have a disadvantage if a general with this trait attacks them and it is a night battle. The torches are optional, but require BI only graphics, thus night battles for me (since I don't have BI) happen without the torches.

As for why they aren't in EB 0.8, I don't know. Maybe a member of the EB team can comment on what is happening? I'd be curious to know what the status is on this, and why they can't be activated.

I think i know why night battles aren't in 0.8: they are irrelevant. Large armies (to my knowledge) never fought in the dark, as it would be extremely difficult to coordinate your troops. Only battles that were fought at night were ambushes, small scale surprise attacks, and occasionallly siege battles. Yeah, it's a nice gimmick to have but i'm sure the devs had more important things to do
The traits for night battles exist in the character traits text...
Can an EB member chime in?

Well, night battles do have more purpose than just aesthetics in the game. When you attack an army that has reinforcements around, you'll only have to fight against the one you're attacking if the reinforcements don't have a general with the night fighter trait. I don't know if it's realistic or not, but that's the point in the game.
RTRPE, which is for 1.5, has night battles with torches too; I don't have the first clue about modding, but I think it is not a standard feature of 1.5, the modders had to implement it somehow (magick!) from BI?
Wow, got 3 ballons in one fell swoop![]()

Yes the torches had to be implemented separately. As for night battles being unrealistic, that's the conclusion i got from a discussion with devs and some other members on the RTR forums. And since EB is, first and foremost, focused on realism, it isn't a big deal the night battles aren't in.Originally Posted by Tiberius Nero

Cheers
for those who would like to have night battles in, and with torchs...there is a nifty little tutorial in the scriptorium area of this forum about this issue... it's possible, although i haven't yet tryed it... im sure to give it a go as soon as i get the vegetation mods issues solved in my install...

night battles work fine and dandy. I have it so only the germans and sarmatians can aquire the traits randomly, every general of other factions has to earn the trait by winning a night battle against one of the two factions above. Maybe not very realistic, but i like it
