Okay - in future, please dont' make multiple posts - there's an edit button on your post for a reason. The enter key's there for a reson too - no need to have everything in one big paragraph; it's a pain to read.
As to your questions, the mouse wheel scrolls in, hard and very hard settings change battle variables like the effect of morale (but fairly - there's no advantage to teh ai), and yes, that sounds right about the merchants.
