Because some folks feel the need to 'speak' on the internet using words that they know would get them, at worst, punched in the face, and at best, ignored by polite company, in any other 'real' place.
Mostly, these folks would never use such words at their family dinner table, or when talking to their mother. Why not?
Respect.
All the Org demands, is that, in this place, with these people, on these boards, members use the same self-censors they would use at a family gathering, out of respect for their fellow readers/writers.
Over time, even the most foul-mouthed of our membership 'see's the light', and understands our concepts of honour, respect, and tolerance. A miniscule few feel the need to fight the application of Org standards... but eventually, they either come around, or wave goodbye - this after enormous staff attention and time.
I'm not on staff now, but I have been. Believe me, staff agonizes (rightly, in my opinion), discusses, and dissects their decisions to apply sanctions to any Member.
They hold sacred, the right of any poster to say what they feel. They have the (voluntary) job of weighing those members' words against the overall good of the org as a whole. Have those words advanced the conversation, or detracted from it? Have those words expressed some new aspect not previously examined?
Mighty, weightful, challenging tasks, those.
Thankfully, this site generates visitors with the might and weight to tackle such challenges - guys and gals willing to help out their new-found community of TWgamePlayers. To run contests, administer Guides, organize subjects, and (yes) even slap the wrist of errant posters who've temporarily forgotten the 'respect' thing, because they got too caught up in the TW role-playing aspect.
In sum:because it's important.tell me why we making a fuss
Be well. Do good. Keep in touch.
