Ok, here I am - turn 161 (1160/0.50) of my first campaign as the English. I have 15 territories and just need to off the French who are down to 2 and the Scots who have 3 (?!?). I really hurt the Scots early on, including 2 crusades to Edinburgh, and they never really recovered, so I just kind of let them be - bigger fish to fry.
Anyway, both the Scots and the French are excommunicated and I have a perfect Papal rating (9 Cardinals!). At the beginning of the turn, a message tells me that the Scots have been reconciled (their king died). I think, "oh well" and get on with my day. I looked at the new king, who I knew was in Dublin. I just happened to have an assassin sitting outside the gates as I had been attempting to kill this man when he was heir, watching my succes % go down with every failure. I figured, why not? With my very first move of the turn, I tried again, this time with a 15% chance...got him. Then I get a message that the Scots have been destroyed. Ok, I guess they just ran out of family members, I happened to kill the last one.
In my next move I scrolled to another assassin, hoping to get all of my kills out of the way first, lest I forget. He was sitting outside of Dijon where the French king was. His name is Davy Vicke and he is usually just as likely to kill himself as his target. In fact he had hever had a successful assassination. I selected the king...5% chance. I figured that this bum would either kill or get killed and then I could recruit someone else. What do you know? He knifed the king right in the back...dead!
This story would have been better if the French were also out of family members...but they're not. 2 more left...and I have got my eye on them.
