Do princesses ever seal an alliance??

Yes, I get you point, however it is impossible (in my experience):

1) To marry your princess with a faction your are at war against
2) To marry your princess to a faction heir with a different religion

Whoever can come up with an example that contradicts these statements please post it in the thread, Thankyou.

Then could anyone please answer:

1) What happens when princesses die?
2) Will a princess ever remain unmarried and be remebered in history as "toad-faced".

In the early game it is easy if you are not that powerful yet or at war with 10 other factions. In my experience, if the princess dies, the alliance still lasts, barring war or some other aformentioned circumstance.

Well you are right in that I have never tried to go outside the Catholic factions so far...

So far I've only successfuly nicked one noble with a princess. And my Heir is nearly always married before he becomes the Heir.

I've never married a princess my faction was actually at war with, but I'm guessing it can be done with monetary or land coercion. There's precious little in the game that can not be negotiated with the proper amount of monetary grease applied. I have married a princess who's political alliances made it unlikely and that with surprising results (read my previous post this thread). Try including 'ceasefire' in the negotiations.

I have married my catholic faction heir to an orthodox (Russian) princess with no more resistance than from another catholic faction. They were, in fact, eager and paid me for the union. I think it has more to do with how highly ranked your faction is. As far as Muslim factions go, I have never even seen a Muslim faction princess on the screen. I wonder if they even have princesses what with the cultural differences in how they supposedly think of and treat women. I've also never had a Muslim character as a potential suitor for one of my princesses.

I'm also curious if a faction leader could remarry after a princess dies. I've never yet had one die before her husband. I tend to marry them young. Being on the back end of middle aged, myself, it kind of gives me hope to see the 20 year age difference on the screen. Hey, It could happen. There was Paul McCartney. Art Bell recently married a woman some 40 years his junior. Of course they have lots of money and talent.

It's too bad you can no longer cheat traits to princess characters after the marriage. At least, I don't think you can as their character info screen will no longer come up. It might be worth a try, though there would be no way to confirm the success of your results. You could try giving one that 'feeling poorly/sickly' trait in hopes she might die off early. It would be kind of like poisoning her to free up your character to marry the adultress he's having an affair with. Better yet, dump the adultress with 'remove_ancillary' (since she obviously doesn't have respectable morals, anyway) and find yourself some young thing.

It can't be done - tried it tonight. The option simly doesn't get offered to you. I sent an emissary to a Polish Princess (Allies) and had the option to marry her to both my leader and my heir (both un-married) and did neither. i then got my emissary to ask the same thing of the HRE (at war) and neither option appeared on the diplomacy screen.

OK - more info.

I got a ceasefire with the HRE then married one of their wenches to my faction leader (poor guy) and got a rather unholy alliance between me and the HRE. Although we had an alliance throuhg marriage, our relations were "terrible" and so I didn't hold out much hope for the future. Nest move I send my emissary to give them gifts and make them like me more. I offered to trade map information ("generous") and threw in a thousand to make it sweeter. They replied that rather than share map information, maybe we should part and go our seperate ways.... and promptly broke the alliance.

So the alliance still depends heavily on relations with the faction - which is what you'd expect

You can marry princesses between orthodox and catholic religions, Ive done it both ways, as the HRE to the Russians, and as the Russians to Hungary, Denmark and HRE. I have not tried to marry a princess to any of the Islamic factions, simply because I would not do that to one of my beloved daughters. And from what I collect Islamic factions dont even get princesses, so I dunno about them. I would imagine that you can do it though.

You cannot forge a marriage alliance anytime you could not forge a regular alliance, meaning if youre at war, or if you allies is at war with that faction.

Yep, my prince turned eventual king had a wretched Russian mail order bride... er princess, so Christian factions can inter-marry at least.


My favorite marriage, however, was when I married off one of my French princesses to England. Before the wedding, France was at war with Spain, the HRE, Denmark, Sicily, and Poland (Poland in name only through an alliance, as we never fought). Because England, a neutral former enemy who settled when I kicked them off the mainland), was still allied with some of these guys, suddenly Denmark and Poland went neutral with me (didn't get a message stating such... the Dane generals invading my lands just all pulled back and I noticed when I went to move my armies up against them and it came back asking if I wanted to attack a neutral faction). Apparently the wedding was a big success and the Danes and Poles that showed up on the groom's side got along splendidly with the bride's side of the family or something... two or three turns later, the bride's sister married into Denmark's brood and suddenly my northern adversaries were my friends.
