Hehe, so they finally realized that people don't want their graphics update and prefer gameplay? Seems like they are trying hard to make more people buy their PS3 instead of one of the other consoles.Originally Posted by article

Next-gen stuff is going to have a hard time. Graphically there won't be much scope for improvement (except sorting this resolutions mess up, and the Wii of course), and by then proper tv-recording stuff, ala iTV, will be around and present. Plus the internet will probably be the main medium for film delivery.
They can't, Nintendo has whatsitcalled on both concept and technoligy.Originally Posted by doc_bean

If they steal the Wiimote, then we have a Wii with fantastic graphics![]()
It would be a cheap move of course, and no way they could get away with it. (and didn't nintendo steal the analogue stick from sony?? The ps1 was there before the N64)
Of the two companies, Nintendo had the analogue stick first. It came on the default controller for the N64, whereas Sony brought out a modified version of their original control after the N64's launch. The analogue stick was the N64's equivolent of the Wii's motion sensor: a hyped unique feature intended to revolutionise gaming. It's one of the reasons Mario64 was so awe-inspiring - 3d and with analogue controls!
It was a cheap move, and they got away with it.

Ah ok, didn't know that. Never knew the ps1 started without the analogue stick. Good luck finding a Wii indeed it's madness, all are gone, next badge is already gone, probably won't be cuddling my Wii before 2007![]()
Amazon have corrected themselves and my Wii is currently being packed for delivery tomorrow

I expect the PS4 will follow tradition and have two analogue sticks. Playstation controller design has been quite conservative and has followed the same pattern since the very beginning; the original controller (picture here) had two analogue sticks bolted onto it to form the dualshock, which recieved a few tweaks and the rumble feature to become the PS2's dualshock2. Not having seen a PS3 I can't comment much on the controller, but it seems like it went wireless and had a slight makeover but is otherwise unchanged from the dualshock2.

*cough* The original dual shock also had a rumble feature, hence the nameOriginally Posted by frogbeastegg

I believe the shock feature was actually something Sony did first, since Nintendo later added it with the rumble pack.
Well, the sixaxis IS pretty different:Not having seen a PS3 I can't comment much on the controller, but it seems like it went wireless and had a slight makeover but is otherwise unchanged from the dualshock2.
-it has rolland pitch control (perhaps yaw too), which means that like the Wii controller, it's montion sensitive. (The Wii controller is motion sensitive to all 6 axis i believe)
-it has NO rumble
-it's wireless
-it has slightly better analog sticks (or so I've heard)
The PS4 controller is anybody's guess. Right now it looks like Wii-style control is the future, expect rip offs very soon.

I never had a PS1 so I wasn't sure when that was added in.Originally Posted by doc_bean
As for the timing of rumble being added to each console, I'm not sure. It made its debute on the N64 with Starfox ... and I know that rumble was present by the time FF8 came out, as it's the oldest game in my little PS1 collection which as rumble support. IIRC - bearing in mind I wasn't taking much notice of the PS1 at the time - they gained rumble fairly close to each other, at least in the UK. Sony may have been first; I wasn't paying them much attention back then as there wasn't anything I wanted on their console.
Now you mention it, I do remember seeing some complaining over the removal of the rumble feature.PS3 controller
A fair bit different, then. I wonder why it hasn't gained much attention in the bits and bobs I've read on the PS3? What I've seen has mostly concentrated on graphics and how powerful the console is, with a bit about blueray support. :cough: And a fair bit of grumbling about the lack of good games and nasty price :cough:

I think the oldest game that supported the DualShock that I have is Crash Bandicoot 2 (I'm *pretty* sure it supported analog control, the first one doesn't iirc), so that would mean both Nintendo and Sony released their 'rumble' add-ons pretty close to eachother.Originally Posted by frogbeastegg

Lylat Wars (Or Starfox 64) was a release title for the N64, and that was the first game to make use of the Rumble Pack. Seeing as the Dual Shock wasn't released until after the 64 had been, I think Nintendo were first.
