Without double-checking I cannot be sure, but at a guess it is an inversion of Cicero's speech accusing Catilina of consipiracy against Rome.

Which was itself an utterly unscrupulous power grab from a brilliant and ambitious man. Worked, too, as it netted him the consulship.

Correct in saying that it's supposed to be in imitation of Cicero's style - best essay title ever. I had a lot of trouble thinking up an argument to defend Catiline with, couldn't, so decided to make some stuff up and go on the attack.

I have to correct you about Cicero though - Cicero was already consul by the time he accused Catilina, but his candidacy speech is highly amusing... full of invective against, amongst others, Catilina.

Wasn't as good as your attempt Beefeater, so well done, very nicely researched and written.
