    Default Using System Lab Requirements...

Specifically for Elder Scrolls Oblivion and MTW2. But for some reason or another, I run the test and it pops up with all the normal stuff including side bars and adverts, but no system information. I turned off the pop-up blocker after I downloaded and installed the thing it wanted me to install (activeX?)What do I do?

Do you think the Golden Rule should apply to masochists as well?

92% of teens have moved onto rap. If you are part of the 8% that still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your signature. yes that's right i dont listen rap..

Go ahead and install the ActiveX component. It's not spyware, and it is very easily removed.

As they say, the ActiveX or Java component isn't spyware, etc. Just a little piece of software to do the analysis.

    It's trustworthy.

ActiveX is just a component. Many professionally run websites feature SLR, so no worries.

Shut off your firewall and any blockers or shields you may have and just go ahead and access it. I don't know your computer's specs so I can't help you much more.

Why did you post this here again?

ActiveX is not something that is universal and hosted somewhere. ActiveX components are specific to its users (hosts) so that the website you are requested to load the ActiveX component presents you the ActiveX plugin.

Just a thought -- that site supports both an ActiveX plugin and a Java script. You could always hit it with Firefox instead of Explorer and see if it works. It's never a bad idea to hit a problem from a couple of angles, right?

Having multiple browsers with different cores is never a bad idea, Lemur (like Maxthon and FireFox, but not IE and Maxthon). When unexpectedly one fails at some point, the other may save you a lot of time.

Yeah, I just tried the applet using Firefox 2.0, and all went well. My system passed readily (4 bars for CPU type & O/S, 6 bars for CPU speed/RAM/free disk space, 5 bars for video card & features, PASS for all other categories). The test went smoothly and quickly, so using this browser (rather than IE) may work better for Derfasciti.

    Here's Firefox.

Firefox is a free browser that works in Windows. You should have no worries about installing it.

Err I was playing WoW while I was doing it. Would that have an effect on it? My computer is pretty good and is not even a year old yet so I don't think it'd have an effect on it.

Not to mention I've tried it without that kinda stuff running in the background IIRC.

edit: If this site continues not to work for me, is there another one that I might use?

You should definitely *not* have other applications running while you use the site. Kill your other apps, use Firefox, and if it doesn't work, then you've been cursed by a Cthonic god.

Well that's what's so curious...When you double click for Mozilla firefox to open, is it actually supposed to open? I've tried several times for it to open and it never does.

Yes, it is supposed to open.

I think it may be time for you to contact your nearest geek friend and have him/her take a look at your setup. I have this sneaking feeling that if I could just look at what you're doing, I could help. But I've got too little info, and your posts aren't making any sort of pattern for me.

Do you have a friend or relative who's got strong geek mojo?

In your estimation, could it run MTW2 and/or Oblivion?

Yuppers, I expect it should be able to play just about any DX9 title. Perhaps not with every little graphic option turned up, but you should have a playable and enjoyable experience.

You really should check out the detailed system reqs - IMO, the graphics card is usually the binding constraint.

But for what it is worth, when I run System Lab reqs, the graphical depiction of where my computer stands in comparison to the recommended specs for all three games you mention is pretty much identical. So I infer they are similarly demanding. You can't sue me if I am wrong, though.

PS: Both TW and Elder Scrolls games tend to set fairly demanding requirements, but can be played on much poorer rigs if you turn down the settings. The question then is how much you want the pretty graphics and how much lag you can bear. For Oblivion, my old 128 MB graphics card was enough. But for M2TW, I decided the game was worth an upgrade.
