Your joking me right?
Wow. That's probably the number 1 reason I don't try to hold the holy lands. Jihad, baby!

Poor Germans, will never know what hit them.
prepare for even more and better mongol commanders. i'm sorry to inform you that unless you have a hell of a lot more reinforcements coming you're pretty much shafted.

Mongols? Pfft... The walls of Acre have already seen off 5 full stacks, each one led by an umpteen star general. Within the walls? A motley band of peasant crossbowmen, sergeant spearmen and mounted/unmounted feudal knights. And a trebuchet. No general in sight (my faction leader is bumming around in the countryside with his reiters, assaulting Damascus for fun and profit...)
On a serious note, if the horde goes south - ie. to the holy land, it bottlenecks if it tries to advance on Acre from Antioch, meaning it can only attack with one stack at a time...
That is why you get a lot of missile units that penetrate armor, fortify your city with huge walls and cannon towers, and pray to the holy God that you surive.
Yeah, I see no reason to dump money into holding on to the holy lands when you can just sack them repeatidly for 30k a pop.Originally Posted by Lord Condormanius

its not as bad as it first seems, the armies tend to be made up of a lot of heavy cav and HA, with very little infantry, and wot little inf they have is generally not comparable to ur dismounted knights. best tactic is to hole up in ur towns and just defend siege after siege. it can be done. another tactic is to train up an 10 star assasin and kill off every general before they get any land :P did that in my byzantine camp, he had 80-90% chance of sucess on every one except faction leaders and heirs. :D :D

And here I just abandoned my last patch of german land to permanently settle the HRE in the Holy Lands... better start building those defenses.Originally Posted by Lord Condormanius

Thankfully I was the Scots at the time. The only reason I could see what was happening at Jerusalem was because the Turks started a Jihad against the HRE holding it. As it played out the Mongols ending up wiping out everyone from the region including the invading Jihad armies and those HRE's holding Jerusalem. Serve's those Jihader's right, prayers for my HRE brothers though...
I think I counted 62 or so armies there pevergreen. That is just freaking ridiculous

ohh yeah, i see where i forgot one. Doesn't matter though, still too much. I suggest taking out the SE portion first. Bigger armies, but it has some forest to help lower the calvaries maneuverability.I got 63, but whatthe hell, now way your gonna beat that lot.

Is that what the Mongols do once they settle down? I am glad I wiped them out (with a combination of assassins, open battles, and sipahi kill-squads who target retreating family-members).

Werner in your pic they look pretty much weaker actually compared to what they show up as initially.

Hey pevergreen that is a shocker.
I must confess that I looked long and hard but could not find "Where's Wally"
I think that your best chance would be a tactical nuke... maybe?

Been to:
the best way to kill of the mongols is to allow them to seige. make sure you have some good quality spearmen and lots of archers. if you put the pearmen in the gateway and any breaches in the wall, they will charge their horses against them resulting in mass slaughter.
first off pevergreen, while that is alot of armies, if anyone cares to notice there is only about 10 or so full stacks there, the rest being stacks of 1-2 units or family members. while its still alot its not quite as bad as that picture makes it look.
Besides that, my thoughts are that while the mongol and turmid envasions are fun for the player to fight against and can be very very challenging, it dissapoints me that the ai cant put up a better fight against them, in every game i have played, the mongols have wiped the floor with turks, egypt, russia when they come in up top and byzantine, except in my byzantine camp where i wasted them. it wouldnt be so bad if the ai put up any sort of resistance but in my experience, on both medium and hard difficutly the factions that get attacked by the mongols put up little to no fight.and they generally conqor either all of the holy lands or all of russia in a few turns.

The only reason that the Mongols walk over all AI players is because all the AI vs. AI battles are autocalced. Since the Mongols start out with heavy lancers and fully elite troops, the built-within-the-confines-of-an-economy militia and early-period units the AI fields have no chance at all.
That may be intentional game design. If you're playing a faction in the East, it's up to you to stop them. If you're playing in the West, it makes them more than just a distant threat that you can ignore, if you have any dealings in the Holy Lands at all (which you do with Crusades, as a Catholic faction).Originally Posted by knoddy
Me, I'm glad I'm playing as Spain at the moment, so dealing with them is somewhat optional, and they don't directly threaten my homelands.

Amen. I am Scotland right now and still haven't seen them on my continent. As for the quick invasion of the Mongols, knocking a faction or two out within several turns, thats the way it was designed I believe. Its to somewhat simulate the Mongols as a serious threat, no matter where you are.
And I don't know about you, but I feel pretty scared.
The Mongol + Timurid invasion may be a little too over the top IMO. But the good thing is that unlike the original game, the Mongols aren't a pushover this time around.
Well as long as their sieging army doesn't look like this....
^^ I wonder if they will ever break through the wall?
