Thread: The best faction to start out . . .

Default The best faction to start out . . .

Okay, one more question and then I'll leave everyone alone. My faction of the moment in EB 0.8 is Makedonia. I've learned there'll be some changes in the Maks 0.81, so I'm putting that campaign on hold until then.

I thought about starting Roma, but then I thought I'd ask for opinons. I like Roman, Greeks, maybe Egyptians (never tried them).

What faction would you recommend (developers and players) for someone who:

    1. Isn't a huge fan of screaming hordes of painted, nude men (i.e. barbarians).

    2. Is a fan of classic refined cultures that built lots of cool buildings.

    3. Never played EB until two nights ago.

    4. Wants to get the full "EB" experience without loosing, eh, the essential parts of his anatomy.

    5. Would like to continue the campaign (if possible) when v. 0.81 comes out.

I'd like to start a campaign tonight and I'm leaning towards Roma. Is there a better suggestion?

    Thanks.

0.81 will not be save compatible.

    My favourite faction in 0.7x

Downloading 0.8 right now. I'm eager to see what changes have been made for them.

As much as I love them, I've already played them a lot so I'm going to try another faction first. Something non-Hellenic, Averni or Pahlava probably.

My personal favorite is the makedonian enemy to the south Koinon Hellenon. No particular reason but I seem to have fun every time I play them. Cool units also.

Lusotannan. They're not ''screaming painted nude men'', they're rather organized.

Plus they have great-looking and multi-functional units

And they are a challenging faction.

until 0.8 i was always going for Iberia...to make a highly debted, and highly dificult faction into a world power...now Lusotannan all the way...=)

I think he's asking what faction will be MOST unchanged from .8 to .81 or onwards so he can have a campaign without worrying that a new feature will render it obsolete and he'll have to start over. From what I understand, the Romani, Ptolomaics, Saba, and Lusotann will be changed in .81, so maybe Pahlava or a Barbarian faction would be wiser for now...and since 8.1 isn't save compatible starting a serious, long campaign is kinda silly, but those would be the best for now, I think
