You dont really want templars you want hospitallers. Join a crusade, thats one of the best ways to get them.
are they the dudes in black uniform and horses with a white cross? if it's them i have a crap load of those I wanted templars though. and yes those Hoptilers do kick ass.
Templars and Hospitallers are exactly the same except:
Templars may charge without orders.
Hospitallers get more armor upgrades.
Some of it depends on the faction you are playing. I have noticed little difference in which ever you get...Be it St. Johns, Templars or what ever...
I had two playing as Sicily. Building knights and stables help, maybe chapels also. Crusading may help. They a bit cheaper and a bit tougher than regular feudal knights. When playing as Scotland I have always gotten the offer, but never as England. With Sicily it came when the crusade succeeded.
I have not tried France or HRE...

Well the HRE obviously gets the Teutons, and they get them very easily as Hamburg and Frankfurt seems predisposed to get them. At least I got them in Frankfurt before I did anything almost.
You may not care about war, but war cares about you!
These factions can have Templars:
england, france, scotland, denmark, hungary, poland, papal_states, milan, sicily, venice
These factions can have Hospitallers (Knights of St. John):
england, france, scotland, denmark, hungary, poland, papal_states, milan, sicily, venice
Same list, and you can have only one or the other. Not sure what toggles the decision as to which one to offer you though...
I think the guilds are limited to certain settlements although I'm not sure which ones are for templars. Having a chivalrous general governing the settlement helps (chivalry of more than 4) and crusading helps.
Conquering a city that already has a templar guild REALLY helps![]()
This way you can have them both. As England I got the Hospitallers in Acre due to crusading and a Templars Guild by conquering the most northern province of Britain (Inverness?) from the Scots. Makes nice armies of Order Knights.Originally Posted by cfc_kev

Rabndom Question. What are tuetons like in relation to Templars/Hospitallers?
The same as Templars in that they might charge out of order, bu they get the armour upgrade as far as I know.
I can't remember if the other two orders have maces as the decondary weapon, but the Teutons do, and they have become my personal 'General' hitsquad because of that. They can easily take down generals because of their good stats and AP bonus.

Can they then train the order knights? I hope not, in fact I hope the building gets destroyed, but I haven't experienced it myself yet.

Now that would be just a little historically inaccurate, wouldn't it![]()
Maybe when the unpacker comes out somebody will start a BUG-FIXER like we had for RTWMight not be as easy though, we'll have to wait and see.
For the details on what you need to do to get any of the Knight's guilds check
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=74072 As previously stated some are limited to certain factions, and somebody somewhere pointed out that some regions have keywords for some of them which may up your chance of getting them in those places, but this is still uncertain as far as i'm aware.

I captured a St.John's chapter house in a Hungarian provice. Did'nt try to train anything out of it though, just scrapped it for 666 Florins (IIRC). Interesting number for the scrap 6 6 6. It did not auto-destruct on occupation of the city, it had to be manually destroyed.Originally Posted by Kraxis

You might want to hold out for Hospitlers. Their guild buildings provide a public health bonus, the GM building provides a bonus of 3, in addition to the normal conversion bonus knightly orders provide.Originally Posted by tobigforyou
Ah... seems odd that such opponents of muslims are allowed to stay. Well, if you can train them (which zulukiller's experience seems to indicate you can not) please tell me.Originally Posted by Sinan

What I would of liked to of seen was also foot soldiers, not just mounted. Though Im sure thats why the Crusader Sargents are there, but still, it would of been cool for example to have mounted Hospitalers and some Templar infantry units.
Yeah that would be a nice feature, definately something i will after the unpacker.
