4 -year-old Accused of Improperly Touching Teacher

BELLMEAD- A four-year-old hugged his teachers aide and was put into in-school suspension, according to the father. But La Vega school administrators have a different story.

Damarcus Blackwell's four-year-old son was lining-up to get on the bus after school last month, when he was accused of rubbing his face in the chest of a female employee.

The prinicipal of La Vega Primary School sent a letter to the Blackwells that said the pre-kindergartener demonstrated "inappropriate physical behavior interpreted as sexual contact and/or sexual harassment."

Blackwell says it's ridiculous that the aide would misread a hug from a four-year-old. Blackwell wrote to administrators demanding that the whole incident be expunged from his son's academic file because his son is too young to know what it means to act sexually.

David Davis, the executive director of the Advocacy Center in Waco tends to agree with Blackwell. He says assuming the boy has not had sexual encounters, or been inappropriately exposed to pornography, most four-year-olds are sexually innocent.

Blackwell got a response from the La Vega administration. The sexual references on the discipline referral were removed. But the thing that makes Blackwell most upset is they told him "your request for an apology by the aide and removal of all paperwork regarding this incident is denied." Now the young student's file will refer to the incident as "inappropriate physical contact." And Blackwell says he will continue to fight the district.

If they are going to be stubborn about it I would get an attorney to draw up some papers to sue the school for allowing a sexual predator like this teachers aid to act in such a promiscuous fashion that she has given an innocent 4 year old the desire to inappropriately touch her. Let that woman have a mark on her permanent record. The threat of mutual, equal unfair punishment should clear the slate.

This kid probably is still having difficulty eating at a table. How is he capable of knowingly committing "inappropriate sexual contact".

However, it could be that the kid has done this repeatedly, thinking it was a joke, and the teacher, having told him multiple times to stop, got annoyed and just sent him to the office.

Ok, I'll be the ONE guy who comes in and says that kids CAN behave in an unappropriately sexual behavior. I knew a young kid that used to go around and tickle adults in a very unappropriate way. He thought it was funny to get such a big response out of them.

Personally, I think suspending the student (even "in-school," whatever that means) was a massive over-reaction. Then again, asking the teacher to appologize is ridiculous. It is ENTIRELY possible that the kid did something inappropriate and the teacher reacted accordingly. Would you rather they just laughed it off and the kid wouldn't learn that rubbing your face in someone's tits for a laugh is a good idea?


The father's statement that the kid was simply hugging the teacher is ludicrous since he WAS NOT THERE. The kid was getting on a bus to go home!

I think even a four year old knows WHY certain behavior is inappropriate. They know genetalia is off limits, for example. Just because they don't KNOW what sex is doesn't mean that can't behave inappropriately sexually.

Besides, they know enough about sex to know who to kiss on the playground. I think you'd be surprised how much kids pick up.

I live about an hour south of there. This is why I pronounce Waco with a "K" after the "C" and I am not in the least surprised at this story. It was bound to happen someday when some idiot (the teacher's aid in this case) took PC too far.

Some people don't like to be hugged/touched, it's inappropriate to touch people in certain places because they don't like it, etc.

I'm not saying you have to use big words, but kids need to learn that they have to respect other people's feelings.

Kids, especially at that age need human contact and not impersonal authoritarian behavior. I'd suggest that the problem in this situation, the teacher's aid, is in an entirely inappropriate occupation - being around children - if she doesn't want to be hugged or touched. Instead of blaming the child, let's place the onus where it belongs.

I knew a woman once who breast fed her youngest, and she still occasionally continued allowing a feeding until the child was over 4 years old. She mentioned once how amusing she thought it was that they could discuss which side tasted better. I'm betting the child grows up either preternaturally well-adjusted or absolutely insane.
