NationStates is a nation and political simulation. It's more along the lines of SimCity on autopilot. You can create a nation by answering a few questions about what it would be like, and then you can watch your nation grow. You can change how your nation reacts to something by Issues. Issues are basicly petitions by the computer-generated population to change something about the nation. One such issue is the controversy of Harry Potter books. Do you want to promote them like a knowledgeable nation, or do you want your nation to be religiously fundamental and burn the Harry Potter books?

Cyber Nations is more hands-on and less political. It's all about the numbers with CN. Once in a blue moon, you will get an issue you need to deal with, but they will not dominate your play as much as NationStates.

If you want war, trade, and general interactions between nations, go with Cyber Nations. If you want a detailed look at how your country's politics can be changed by your hands, go with NationStates.

NationStates seems to pop up here every few months. Obviously quite popular. I might try out CyberNations.

Anyway, my NS country - Nepolonia. I'm the Defense Minister for the region of India.

CyberNations sucks, and pales in comparison to NS once you get to the roleplaying... My nation (mwahaha) and the forum I RP at (and am admin for).

Oh... and get lost with the interregional RP. Intraregional RP and factional strife for ze win! We in Europe don't really give a[n excrement] about the rest of ns.net, for we are savage, unclean and uncivilized, preferring to bash each other's heads in rather than other regions'.

Since it would seem there is a good sized fanbase at the .org for text based RTS's, here's one i've been playing for a month now - www.ogame.org

Very fun space based game. It takes forever to get built up, but once you've been playing for a while you end up having massive space battles. Apparently battles among the more established players involve hundreds of thousands of ships.

Currently i have a small fleet of 10 light fighters, 8 heavy fighters, 4 small cargo ships (for taking the loot home!) and 2 cruisers, which completely pwn the enemy defences.

I'm having a small war right now with one of my neighbours. Very fun!

I also have three planets under my control right now, but i'm suffering a bit of crisis with regards to my resources, as they are running very low.

If there's anyone already playing who wants to come and have a spy at me with an espionage probe, my co-ordinates are 1:277:11.

I used to play it, but I lost interest because it gets so very repetitive.

currywurry... meh. Fantasy- and science fiction-based RPs are not my style at all. Europe makes war on itself with good old-fashioned tanks, artillery, aircraft and men-o'-war. No special stuff, just present-day warfare... and nukes.

Oh, and here's our Wiki I haven't restored my old articles (we had a server move without the database), but there's plenty of quality on there from our other contributors. Lots of stuff that outclasses my former articles! Check out the Great Southern War article for a good idea as to how NSEuropean politics work. Also formerly a featured article on the NSWiki.

And, last but not least, our map. I'm the big light blue blob on the Western continent, and part of Europe's most powerful alliance, the Free Market States. Also currently in the process of revolution towards an anarcho-capitalist libertarian state -- essentially a parody of the Soviet Union.

Played it for a while, ended up with a very good economy with extreme civil liberties and extreme freedom of speech.

Nationstates was ok for a bit. But it has a very simplistic model and nothing much happens unless you decide to engage yourself in a totally made-up pretend world and join fellow players who wish to go around playing pretend games like you're still a child in school. Which gets boring fast. As do the hundreds of stupid invites to stupid non-important regions which are owned by stupid 11 year olds. I think my nation reached about 1.3 billion population before I abandoned it. Really I'd like the whole economic/social/political model revamped so you actually have to put some effort into maintaining the state of your nation. A few simple 'issues' isn't enough. Zero tax or 100% tax makes no difference for example.

Thanks, but you'll find that nseurope isn't quite so immature at all.

Don't big regions get a bit confusing though? The community spirit disappears almost entirely. Although, you guys have a forum so I guess it's a bit easier for everyone to get to know each other.

The discussion at my current region is a bit... blah and not much goes on. I may move to Europe (if that's okay) but I'd like to hear a bit more about this RP concept. PM me please, Wiz.

Craterus - forget Europe, India is where it's at. We've got a good rp going on in our forums right now.

currywurry -- I think you'll find nseurope more active than even India. A lot more active, by the looks of your forum.

Also, you're using phpBB, right? We got hacked over that five times in a row by a vengeful banned member (that's why we're on the much safer -- and much more expensive -- vBulletin these days). Just a head's up

Craterus, check your PM box soonish.

Yes, well, unlike you guys, we haven't had to ban anyone.

And you probably checked India at a bad time - we always go to sleep on the weekends.

And in Indian News, the population has gone above 80 today, and not for the first time. Maybe with a few more months we can reach 100.

    NationStates... lol

    I remember...

If you look around you might find the old thread from a few years back.
    We had wars going on..

    notable players:
    Monk
    Dramicus
    Demon of Light
    Lord of Swords

    I forget the others...
I bet Dramicus still has his nation which would be HUGE by now. We had one comeback a while ago but his nation was too big... we based our GNP on the population and from that we could spend 10% on military.

I have had too much time on my hands and so I've gone and registered on 4 games:ogame, nationstates, cybernations, and earth 2025. By the far the most interesting concept for a game goes to nationstates. I just don't have an idea on what to do with all the role-playing...
