Thread: On Farming the Parthians for Cataphracts

Default On Farming the Parthians for Cataphracts

First of all, this is my first post on this forum for this great, brilliant mod which I have only had the pleasure of experiencing since the v0.8 release. Hats off to the developers!

Ahem..., anyhow, I'm currently playing as the Arche Selukia. After being invaded by the treacherous Parthians, the heir of the Empire led a punitive expedition into Parthian lands and took their city closest to my boarders (Nisa, Niwa, something like that). This leaves them with only one city left and leaves me in a quandary. Should I go ahead and eradicate them, or leave them be until they train some cataphracts and "defeat" my general. Or would they even be able to ever afford cataphracts in such a state?

    hmmmm...... what to do......

You could just eliminate them. If Baktria & Saka are alive (also think Hayasdan) then if you face their Cataphracts, you might gain the trait.

The seleukid cataphract reform isn't working on this version. The traits are there, the scripts are working but the recruitment of cataphract units isn't.

I see, in that case I suppose the choice is obvious, conquest!

It isn't? Because I have cataphracts - a whole division of them.

Edit: You know what it might have been? I conquered Baktra, which has the "Cataphract Reform 2" building in the browser. I must have pulled a "borg" - so to speak.

I should've made myself clearer. The problem is that you can recruit them just by building a MIC 4 in the correct provinces, whether the reforms happen or not.

Not quite. To prevent them from being buildable at the very start of the game, they are currently activated by the RTW marian_reforms event. It's a temporary kludge.

Well, it is 249 BC in my campaign and I can recruit them at Ipsos, Antiocheia, Seleukeia, and (I think) Sardis.

Intresting, I know in several of my cities I have a building labled "Cataphract Reform 2," but I havent as yet been able to build any, though I havent yet built any maxed level factional MIC's. I just assumed that they would "activate" upon fighting some cataphracts. It seems that in any case there's no reason to keep the Parthians around (well, their Kings anyway, surely the people will appreciate the benifits of Hellinism..... or else! )
