Seemingly random game lockups

Sometimes when i try to start EB, the game freezes during the initial loading, and gives off a horrible screecing noise. The only way out of it is to hit reset on the computer.
It seems random, that is to say, i can run the game, it locks, i reboot, run again, it locks, resboot, run again and it works.
Two reinstalls have failed to fix this.
Also it sometimes locks up and gives that niose when quiting.

Any clues to whats up?

Gave up after the 6th try this morning. At this rate of failure, teh game is unplayable for me.
