    Default Rubbish Generals

I'm playin as the Romani, with around 25 family members, and all of them are rubbish. A few of them have full influence, but only two of them have any command, one has 1 and one has 2. I have a Ludus Magnus or at least Academy in nearly all my cities, but my Generals just stay rubbish. Meanswhile, the Aedui, Arveni, and Iberians all have more than five Generals each, each General with at least 5 of each skill (Command, Management, Influence). The only good General I have is one I bribed from the Aedui, he has 7 Command.

Is there any reason why my Roman Generals are rubbish?
At the end of the day politics is just trash compared to the Gospel.

Well with 25 generals, I'm sure not all of them have had many battles, if any at all. You don't get to become a great general by sitting around in a city. Even if you go out and fight, you have to have something special to become truly great. That's one thing (among infinitely many) EB has done well, making sure not every general becomes a 7-10 star behemoth for no reason. Just pay attention to your general's traits, and if you see one has good potential develop them. You can get good leaders, you just have to work for it.

Heh, ironic how you're playing the Romans, Caledonian Rhyfelwyr. Traitor! The quote under your avatar would be ashamed.

I won 10 battles with my Lusotannan faction heir, and he still had the cheeky 1 command point
If i am correct, this guy would have been a real badass m**********r in real life...

Also, the best generals in the game are rebels... what is up with that?

Command stars mean nothing in EB, we give them to rebels to give their army more moral (without giving their troops better attack, because we recommend medium battle difficulty). Our trait system means that how good your general is is all part of what traits they have, not how many command stars they have. Also you must remember that vigorous generals are far more likely to do well in battle, and receive good traits for winning battles. Also fighting against great odds will help you general get better traits. This isn't vanilla, spend time reading about the traits your general is getting. If he doesn't like attacking, make sure that he is always defending and he will get much better traits.

i'm think we give AI generals a stat boost (including command) to make the game more challenging (read: fun).

    edit: err.. what Foot said.

The key is in the morale bonuses, not the stars. Stars are just little graphics, and yeah I know its a nice aesthetic look to see a general running around with alot of stars, but look at their traits for tons of benefits to them rather than in the star level.
