Default Why you take off Segmentata Armour from Roman Army?

I noticed in Costum Battles that all Roman Legionaries don't have Armour Segmentata... why's that? In Golden period of Roman Empire, it was with it that Roman Army dresses!

Unfortunately EB does not cover the Golden Period mate. The lorica hamata was coming into more common use during the late Republic/Early Principate from fabricae across the Empire, which is represented in the game, which ends in AD 15 if I am not mistaken. Even during the height of the Empire many legionaries still used lorica hamata type mail.

Lorica Segmentata was only just beggining to come into use at the end of our period. Even at its hight it would appear it was never the majoriety armour. It also has a number of significant dissadvantages. For one thing carrying a shield on your back for any long distance, it is also labour intensive to maintain and generally unreliable, even in-barracks. Out on campaign it needs intensive care, especially in hot climates. After battle all that armour is probably going to need some quality time with the armourers, and new leather straps; again.

For all those problems you get a reduction in weight and a dubious increase in protection which doesn't cover your lower body at all.

As a general I'd ditch Segmentata just for logistical reasons.

It isn't that great and having it isn't representative.

TK, can we put this in the FAQ, it certainly belongs there.

Hell, I'd like to know why Hastati and Principes dont even have armor...

They do. If youre referring to Camillian era units, the Principes "first men" and some wealthier hastati wore a bronze pectorale, "heart guard" (the little bronze square on their chest) and a bronze greave on their leading leg although by the mid first century BCE greaves were generally gone.
