Three way tie between Roman cavalry, Legionary cohort and Spartan Hoplites
Roman cavalry are cheap heavy cavalry and I can use them o great effect
Legionary cohort are cheap and cost as much as Early legionary cohorts and they have Roman discipline
Spartan Hoplites, does my avatar not say it all, if it does not check out my "location"
If not that, well then, I love the Idealism that the ancient Spartans stood for (before they attempted the oligarchy in Athens) it is a perfect example of what happens when a system of checks and balances are put in place and enforced so that a dictatorship is established and the country is run into the ground owing to the paranoid dictator. I would also like to state that their leaders were mentally strong and did not let the power get to them (except one, there is always a bad egg).

Venetian Heavy infantry would probably be my favorite unit, at the moment. Still subject to change though, as I'm still on my very first campaign
I have to say Pantodapoi Phalangitai of EB. Partially because they are cheap effective defencive infantry, partially because they are the first ever levy phalanx unit I have ever seen in a TW game that can actually can do anything and partially because they answer with a really amazing accent. I just can' resist repeating it wherever I go

For RTW:BI
1: Ciblinari + Kathaprankoi
- Quite expensive but turns the fortunes of war for me.
2: Sarmatian Virgin Cavarly + Bosboran Heavy Infantry.
- Cheap, effective & sexy.
Humans very easy to make and very hard to understand. - SS
for RTW-
Cretan Archers, Numidian Cavalry, Armoured Hoplites, Praetorian Cavalry, Onagers, Phaerohs Bowmen (oops spelling hehe). Obviously not all in the same army though ;)

Plus there is just something fricking cool about fricking elephants with fricking cannons on their heads.

What do dogs and pigs do? How do they help in a war?
A ha ha! Rainbows and unicorns! Rainbows and unicorns!
they don't help, just look awesome, and they are good weapons against Cavalry and Elephants. Pigs=Scare Elephants Dogs=Scare Horses
In actually history, war-dogs were used to tear out the throats of the enemy etc. Such a pleasant way to go, don't you think?Originally Posted by Xehh II

Gotta be Noble Scythian Horse Archers. Mobility, firepower, good morale, powerful melee.

Does anyone know why Janisary Heavy Inf. are as good as they are? There states are comical but that didn't stop them from mopping the floor with Spanish Conquistadors in my custom battle tests.
The Janissary Corps were the elite of the Ottoman Empire, arguably the most powerful single nation/empire of the time period, and the Janissary Heavy Infantry represent some of the most heavily armed and highly trained soldiers of this Corps. If you're talking about MTWII I can't say anything about the specific unit, but in MTW they were one of the best if not the best infantry unit in the game, and they certainly deserved to be one of the best infantry units.Originally Posted by TheJace

Well, aren't they Armour piercing and anti cav' unit? This would provide them with bonuses you wouldn't see in the stats... (checking on the unit coparison's tool)...Originally Posted by Uesugi Kenshin
Totally. They are 4/5/3/3/8 (charge, attack, defense, armour, morale). BUT: they get +3 attack and +1 defense against cavalry. And they're referenced to have a bonus versus armoured unit (meaning a part of the enemy's armour is ignored)
So those guy could probably kill a lot of horses...
Oh, that's what they did against the french knights in Nicopoli, 1396 AD.
Well, I play MTW: VI, my favorite units include JHI and JI, Armenian Heavy cavalry, Avar Nobles, Szekely, Nizaris, and Swiss halberdiers. Also, I love to use naptha throwers on occasion, those guys can be a blast to use(literally!)

Mine would have to be a Spartan unit from a RTW mod called XGM or extended greek mod. The spartans just look so awsome and are obviously killing machines.
The spartan or Early legionary cohort, cant decide.
