Well, let's perform a detailed test:Originally Posted by HamilcarBarca
I loaded up a new Carthage game and per the map posted above, decided to recruit some elephants in the province of Mashiliem. The city in that province, Ippone, already has a Type 2 government, so I know I can build at least a level three MIC. My next step is to look at the existing MIC. It's the Level 1 Militia Armory and Magazine. My next step is to build the Small Contingency Barracks and Armory (L2), and six turns later it is complete. From there I check the construction window, which says the next option is the Large Contingency Barracks, Stables, and Mercenary Armory (L3).
I right click that building, and lo and behold, one of the unit recruitment options is the African Forest Elephant. But since there's a fan out there who claims it's impossible for Carthaginians to recruit elephants, I decide to build one. Stick my finger in the wound, as it were. Nine turns later an imposing new edifice has arisen inside the city of Ippone. I hurry down to see the Commander in Charge, and he assures me that yes indeed, if elephants I want, elephants I can get. Bah I say, I have it on good authority that such creatures can't be found here. He rolls his eyes, and tells me to return in 2 turns. Exactly two turns later I stroll through the city square toward the Armory, but three streets before I get there, my ears and nose tell me what lies ahead. And sure enough, they do not lie. For there they are, an entire squadron of elephants patiently awaiting my arrival, tails and trunks swaying from side to side.
So for anybody who wants Carthaginian elephants, please head off to Ippone at once. I'd REALLY like for somebody to take them off my hands as they are damned expensive, have stripped my fruit trees bare, trampled the vegetables, and ruined the lawn. To say nothing of the flies and the odors that draw them like, well, you know. Worst of all, the mistress is not pleased, and we all know what that means!
