Lorica Segmentata was only just beggining to come into use at the end of our period. Even at its hight it would appear it was never the majoriety armour. It also has a number of significant dissadvantages. For one thing carrying a shield on your back for any long distance, it is also labour intensive to maintain and generally unreliable, even in-barracks. Out on campaign it needs intensive care, especially in hot climates. After battle all that armour is probably going to need some quality time with the armourers, and new leather straps; again.

For all those problems you get a reduction in weight and a dubious increase in protection which doesn't cover your lower body at all.

As a general I'd ditch Segmentata just for logistical reasons.

It isn't that great and having it isn't representative.

TK, can we put this in the FAQ, it certainly belongs there.
