Talking Sunsets: Some screens from my Turk Campaign.

    Greetings All !

In high school I was a BIG gamer. I spent countless hours playing games, I loved games since I was a kid.

In college, all that changed. Responsibility and generally adult life, mostly having to live off my own income and study, and hunt chicks, and learn to live, and learn to cook, and work, and, and, ...etc ...etc, I decided not to allocate any more time for games.

Since then all laptops, PCs were used for the usual spreadsheets, word processing, other net transactions and a plethora of work related and personal things, but not games.

Years later I happened to be browsing some site and a pop up or banner appeared for Shogun: Total War. I bought a PC for STW, and played for the first time in many many years. I loved the graphics. I could just sit there and watch the battles without doing anything.

Now with M2:TW I kind of feel the same for the first time in a long time. I can just sit there and watch the screen. I find it one of the most graphically beautiful games I ever seen. In this genre of course, and with this kind of game entertainment in mind. I bought a new PC for MTW as well. Now I'm thinking of a new one for M2:TW, but sadly my time is limited so I probably won't buy one. You never know though I might land some alienware laptop, for "work".

I took a few screens recently and wanted to share them. These are from my Turk campaign, been playing that a while now. Hope you enjoy them. Keep in mind this is a RADEON 9700 PRO GFX card, 1 GiG RAM, P4 2.6 GHz, from 2002 (IIRC). Wish I had an up to date card, this game must be absolutely stunning then. Resized these images for uniformity and forum use, they are very mildly photshopped.

    SALUTE !!!

Most of the time when people talk about how great the graphics are in M2TW they'll be mentioning the realistic units, the fight animations or the detailed vegetation. I guess it was about time that someone mentioned the amazing skies that add incredibly to the atmosphere of the battles... and those skies you can't miss because you're too zoomed out (like the shining armour, the grass and the combat animations) - they're always there above you.

The desert sunsets shots are great... I haven't went to battle in the sands yet, but I had some pretty awe inspiring skies too. I particularly liked the dark, metallic, "just-before-the-storm" look. They gave me the feeling that something really bad is about to happen, increasing the tension before the battle...

I did build a new PC for this game and let me tell you, the reflections and glints and shadows during a sunset start to battle are amazing. Graphically the game is everything one could hope for. Now we just need a decent AI so that it is worth playing.

I've got to say the first screenshot looks more like somthing out of LOTR than a PC game.

would it be possible to port the skies from M2TW to RTW?

    To OP:
Yeah you're right... with a slightly better graphics card (and shadows on) there are some beautiful things to see:

My cohort of Spanish knights making a final desperate charge through a siege to get to the ships awaiting them on the seashore to take them home (this is in Jerusalem).

I've done that with a few screenshots.

If a thread like "Top 10 Signs You've played too much MTW" ever starts, this will surely make the list...

And yes, it happens to me too, it's particularly annoying when I try to close a scroll in a screenshot by clicking the bottom-right corner.

Dearmad, I reposted your screenshot with the UI cropped out, I hope you don't mind :

Yes they did break that siege, but a HUGE stack was coming down for them, so they ran to the boats and sailed back to Spain.. they regrouped and had a successful campaign against the French then.

The lightning is gorgeous, isn't it? I just love those long shadows you get during a dawn/dusk-battle. I think this is my best shot of it so far:
