    Default Any xmas stupidity yet?

As we know, our society is getting more and more P.C. as every minute passes and I seem to remember last year there was some big hooha about putting christmas decorations up in public because they'd offend some extreme muslims....anyways, has anything like that happened to you guys yet?

    Merry Christmas Everybody :D
    When I was a child
    I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
    The child is grown,
    The dream is gone.
    I have become comfortably numb...

No. Never has either, to be frank. I believe this is truly an Anglo-Saxon thing. Your societies must either have a higher percentage of kill-joys than the rest of us, or less self-confidence and respect for your own traditions. I keep hearing about American and British bans on Christmas decorations and customs because they are inflammable, bad for the for environment, offensive for Muslims, dangerous to kids, oppressive toward animals, etcetera etcetera.

Over here you can ritually kill Santa Claus and all his reindeer, douse them in a thousand gallons of kerosine and burn them in a schoolyard without anyone so much as batting an eyebrow.

Christmas isn't until 6 January! That would be a start for you westerners!

Beirut's already mentioned it, but some Christmas trees got temporarily taken down in Sea-Tac Airport because a Jewish guy wanted them to add a menorah and threatened to sue. The airport takes the easy legal route and takes down the trees, public opinion turns against the Rabbi, who asks for the trees to be replaced, saying he only wanted a menorah added, not the trees taken down (then why'd he threaten to sue?). Oh well, they're back now.

This year too, or so I am told by our correspondent in London. No floral arrangements, paper bells or card-board Santas in many offices. No carol singing in certain schools, no trees in certain shopping malls.

Sorry, haven't noticed anything like this. We usually decorate the cities with huge light chains in the pedestrian zone, a christmas market and other things.
So far I haven't heard about any complaints and it's not unfair either since the muslims had their ramadan tent as well and we can all just enjoy the atmosphere, can't we?
All that banning and sueing in your anglo-anmerican cultures is just weird and means people just don't understand the message.

I don't get it. What is so offensive? Are you the kind of person that hates kids, fireworks, cartoons, dogs and great sports events?

I am neither a Christian nor a pagan, but the trees and nativity scenes don't offend me at all. To each his own - that is the subtext to the whole thing. If anything at this time of the year I 'celebrate' solstice. Not in any religious sense, but as natural phenomenon that brings the promise of spring, rebirth, new life. A time to commemorate, to celebrate the accomplishments of last year and to vow to put things right where I failed last time round. It's the only time of the year when I'm being a good atheist by donating (and liberally so) to the 'enemy' - the Salvation Army!

Instead, we have people who are trying to ban Black Peters...
