Default Some victories are more equal than others

Having previously played STW and MTW, I developed a like-dislike-accept-hate-love-disappointment-reconciliation-disallusionment kind of dysfunctional relationship with RTW. I just couldn't get that fired up about it and eventually quit playing it altogether last January. Didn't think I was interested in M2:TW at all.

But then I got disallusioned with the *other* game I had been playing (so is that game my Adulteress ancillary?). I read a few well-reasoned posts about this game's strengths and weaknesses, and decided to try it out after all.

I'm still slogging through my first long campaign as the English. I have to say that nothing I did the entire time I played RTW/BI/RTR etc. ever gave me nearly the satisfaction that I felt tonight when I finally served those Milanese the righteous beat-down they have been so richly deserving for so long.

For anyone out there who may harbor the same feelings for this despicable faction but are still dealing with them, I have created my first inspirational poster for M2:TW to get you through those trying times:

    :P

Actually, my best moment in that regard was beating the hungarians as the byzantines.

I was counting on them to hold my flank when i dealt with the venetians and the turks, but no, they had to happily inform me that we were no longer allies.

Twenty or so turns later, i happily informed them that they no longer existed (now i think about it, one thing this game needs is a list of status changes, so you can look back and see that in 1124 you declared war on faction x, and were backstabbed by faction y in 1200).

But yeh, the milanese were a real pain in my english campaign too :P

I loathe the milanese. They are so irrational at times. They will never ever accept defeat, or even a surrender. In my current French campaign they were at war with me (france), the HRE, Venice, and the Sicilians. After finally slogging through those horrid archer armies they were reduced to 1 province, finally I launched an invasion after trying to get a ceasefire. I destroyed their 1 of 2 armies, no ceasefire. So I destroyed their last army, with my full stack next to their capital and only city (genoa) with only a unit of italian militia and a general guarding it, no ceasefire. Not even an acceptance for vassaship. I tryed giving them milan, bern and even mertz for a ceasefire, all to no avail.

After exiting the diplomacy screen the army sieged the city, the spies unlocked the gates and 30 seconds after milan refused to accept defeat they were destroyed!

I don't understand. What could make people dislike a faction that repeatedly stabs you in the back with stack upon stack of Genoese crossbow militia because their starting provinces are so rich and the upkeep costs for said militia are so low so much?

In my current campaign as England I am allied with Milan, fully expecting to be stabbed in the back at the first opportunity. At least I managed to get them to pay for the privilege of being allied with me.

First thing I did as HRE was move in and destroy Milan. Made it just in time aswell because only two turns later I got attacked by Venetia,France,Siscily, and Poland. From there on it was pretty much all about defence for a good long while
    There can be only one....
