Bass Players?

Any bass players around? I'm looking to pick up something new, that sucks less than my hand-me-down Squire P-Bass. Any recommendations on a good intermediate bass, about $200-$500. I've been recommended the Squire Vintage P-Bass and an Epiphone. Any ideas?

Me, I play. I've got an old school 70s bass. Sexy sound, really sexy.

I can recommend quite a few but they would be way more than your price range. I suggest something reliable then, such as the "Ibanez SRX390" or the "Yamaha RBX270".

But if you check eBay you'll be sure to find cheap Spector, Warwick, Gibson, Belman, StingRay or Sadowsky Basses.

My brother has this bass:



But it's $699. Though it is a really nice Bass and he's had for about a year now and nothings went wrong and it sounds really good.

I on the other hand had a First Act Bass. Bought it for 120$ but I wouldn't recommend that for you. That's more of a beginner thing.

Got to agree with Rhythmic on this one, you really are paying for the name with Fender.

My advice is to go Japanese-Ibanez or Yamaha. They both make excellent, reliable and sturdy basses which will play just as well as any Fender.

I use an Ibanez BTB 300 myself, which I love-it's mahogany and bubinga, with a jazz pick-up set up and an active EQ. The action is great too, well worth the 300 quid I paid for it.

The EB-0 is an alright little bass, but I should point out that it's short scale-only 30.5. This will make it easier to make stretches, but you'll suffer from floppy strings, assuming you stick to standard gauge.

I beg to differ. The Fender Jazzmaster is unlike anything out their and the sound does well in many settings. Although, in the end, I prefer the Epiphone WildKat or the Ibanez Artcore series. Both play well and sound just like a Gibson.
On the bass topic, I just play an upright from somewhere in Russia that ended up down here.
Electric basses: go with a ThunderBird. John Entwistle played one, and he was the Ox. You could be the next Ox.

Nice, but I don't think one can beat the sound of an upright bass played staccatto (sp? I am not, nor do I understand, Italian).
Although, on the other hand, you have the Precision (no pun intended) of fret markers and the electric basses are very easy to manage. Not as important, but I think the Jazz basses look pretty classy too. Also, big tone tip: muffle your Amp just a little bit to get a better sound. SRV used some duct tape to perfection!

Tought Fender isn't bad at all for normal electric guitars. Here we have an Ibanez which not to bad, but nothing like the acoustic bass we got tough.

My old Chemistry teacher had a 70's guitar that he let me and one of my friends put the strings on for it. It was a Fender Stratocaster I believe. It was in really good condition considering how old it was.

If you're looking for something to hold you off 'til you get a really nice one, you may want to just get a new pick-up, that is if you like the strings and fret board enough, and new strings themselves aren't hard to get.
