Default If you like adventures grab Fahrenheit.

God why aren't there more games like this.

There aren't many adventure games, and even less good ones, and there is only one Fahrenheit. You actualy play the story, you solve the murder you commited, and how you play the game changes the story. You play the murderer, his brother, a cop and a detective, and how all sequences play out depends on how you played them. Because of your actions someone might see you for example, and that person will be in the next chapter, as an eyewitness for the police. It's rediculous how well it works, I especially recommend it to Deus-ex fans, they will eat it alive. Story is supossedly very good, but I haven't finished the game yet, so far it's long, and so far it's excellent. Great creepy mood, the best acting to ever grace a game, lovable characters, and a camara that drives you completily nuts at first. The game has action moments, and these play like a rythem game, could have done without any action altogether, it isn't really fun. When there is actual gameplay it never is really fun, sometimes even annoying, should have sticked with telling a story and solving puzzles.

Sounds interesting! But do you actually play several different characters in the game?

Yes, you play the murderer, but also the people that have to solve the case. I'll try to make it more clear with an example. In the first scene you see your character murdering someone, and now there are several things you can do, hide the body, mob the floor, or just run like hell. A LOT can happen, if you bump into the waitress for example you will be doing a recreation of the face later in the game as the cop, it's all really interesting, and deliciously creepy.

(ps, in the US it's called Indigo project. which is odd, only the US uses Fahrenheit)

Ok... but if you do a good job as the murderer character, can it become impossible to solve as the police character? And can you deliberately play not so well with one of the character to make it easier with another...? It seems quite easy to exploit and odd from a gameplay point of view... I might check it out however

No, you will as the police find out anyway regardless how you play.

Fahrenheit is a good game indeed.
The storyline is good and interesting but it is not very open tho.
Also if you are lucky and have the european version you get to see some sex scenes and nudity .

Oh, right... Indigo Prophecy. Ugh. I will reiterate what I said once before concerning this one.

I was really disappointed when I played it. The storyline seems really uninteresting to me, despite being somewhat original; had it been a surreal odyssey through a near-future city, it would have been a truly enrapturing game. Instead, we go from a promisingly interesting start to becoming bogged down in the (frankly) dull, mundane lives of the main characters. Hell, there are two female characters that seem to be included for no other reason than to kill time (okay, they're there for sex, too, but why? Was it really necessary in a game like this?) And then there is the problem of having to do EVERY SINGLE LITTLE DAMN THING for the characters, including putting on freakin' clothes and using the bathroom! The whole control setup, despite being original and innovative, also manages to be both frustrating and dull after about five minutes.

Maybe it's just that I hate the way the storyline went, but I would not be able to recommend this one to anyone.

I've heard really good things about this game, but I've also heard that they implemented an awful, Track & Field style button-tapping control mechanic. Is that the case?

I'm in agreement with GonZorba on this one. The story began with a whole lot of promise, but soon everyone besides Lucas quickly degenerated into a token, cliched character that we've all seen a hundred times before in the movies and TV. I expected a story that would continue to get deeper and more interesting, but it ended up feeling like the writers tried their hardest to end it as lowbrow and formulaic as possible. It seemed like a commercial game disguised as an art game.

And I do know about the edits made to the North American version of the game, and frankly, this made me dislike the game even more. Not because of the edits, but because they felt they needed to include the scenes. In my opinion, it is a dirty sales tactic. I'm not going to buy a game because it has that kind of material in it, and I don't think it makes the story better or more "mature" either. It makes me think the exact opposite.

BKS, some action scenes are handled by entering a Simon-type code with the keyboard equivalents of the D-Pad and buttons of a controller. Other action scenes indeed have tests of button-tapping strength.

And there were things I liked, one that stands out is the dialogue options. These options gave you a type of response such as "cold" or "sympathetic" and had your character speak a response fitting that description. It helps give a character identity instead of having a "silent protagonist" that chooses from lines of dialogue.

It's a flawed gem. The standout sequences are near the start, contained in the demo, and I truly enjoyed the game at that point. It's got a great script carried by some of the best acting I've heard in from my computer, and great atmosphere. But it really loses it about 2/3 of the way in, and the earlier freeform adventure style game in which your decisions made a difference evaporates in favour of a cliched, confused and above all linear sci-fi twist.

There are button-bashing sections, but they are generally short and work perfectly in the flow of the game.

I thought the dialogue and acting were nop-notch. The acting was very very good especially when you consider how rubbish most video game voice overs are. The story does tail off a bit, and some of the puzzles are just annoying, but the characterisation and atmosphere pull it through.

I didn't like the track and field sequences much. Not that they were out of place, or too hard (the difficulty level can be changed for individual puzzles) but they are used most often for action sequences. Sadly this has the effect of concentrating the player's attention on the Simon-says sequences rather than the action itself, which is a shame since the graphics and animation are top-notch. The animation throughout is especially smooth, proper motion captured stuff.

Overall I enjoyed the game, though interactive story might be a better name for it. As mentioned, it is a flawed gem packed with innovation which doesn't always work, but since it should be available cheaply now it really is worth a go.

It does lose it's edge a bit later on, I agree. Also agree about the sexscenes, wasn't expecting it to be so explicit, feels kinda cheap to cheat your way into being mature, it doesn't really aid the story. Still an unique experience, I like it when developers try something different, games like this or Killer7 are a rare treat for adventuregamers.
