Thread: Maybe something wrong with my preference file..?

    Default Maybe something wrong with my preference file..?

    I have Medieval II Total War: Gold Edition. I owned RTW before so I just wanted to check the preference file for MTW.

    So, I went to: Program Files>SEGA>MTW>medieval2.preference.cfg. (Opened it with notepad)
    But only thing that was in the file was:
    [video]
    widescreen=0
    [game]
    allusers=1

    I tried renaming it to ".txt" file or unchecking "hide extensions for known files" but nothing worked.

    I also heard that you must have your game open in order to use the preference file. Does this mean I have to go into the game? I couldn't come out by pressing "window" key or anything.

    But yeah, shouldn't there be more stuffs in the preference file or am I missing something? By the way, I'm use window VISTA.

    Any help?

    You first have to start the game and play a couple of turns. After that your preference file should look different.

    I've actually played a couple of turns but it's still the same..

    As you can see from that image, the preference file is only 1kb.

    Check if your preference file is "read only" (right click on it -> Properties). If it is, obviously it couldn't be changed. Remove the checkmark in front of the Read-only.

    Yeah, it's unchecked.

    Maybe I thought it was because I didn't play Kingdom version yet. As you can see from that screen shot, there's "kingdoms.exe" "launcher.exe" and "medieval2.exe"
    I clicked on kingdoms.exe but it wasn't working. I got this..

    Should I just reinstall the whole thing?

    That's normal, because you didn't specify which campaign to load . You have to use the shortcuts.

    What happens when you change some options in the game? Does it return to default after you restart the game?

    Ah, I got it. I had to access it through virtual store folder. Because I'm using Vista.

    Microsoft never ceases to amaze me... I wasn't aware of this "feature" of Vista. Still using the XP

    I'm glad you solved the problem.

    Wow. Virtual Store Folder. I can hardly wait to get Vista now.
