I think it's impossible to just shuffle them. Only thing I can think of is to have units separate first and then to put them together in the proper order/groups and such. But this would cost you not only more time but more movement points.

That is what I am currently doing/have been doing.
I'd like to organise my armies as they would be organised on the field. It's easier to keep track of that way as well, for replenishment, retraining purposes.

This has been impossible since Shogun and it has been driving me mad ever since. I can not imagine that it is much work to implement that.
I absolutely hate to look at a full stacked army and count my spearmen, missile, cavalry units. Being able to sort by unit type or simply implementing some sort of drag and drop is and has been necessary for a long, long time.
Weird, was'nt it possible in MTW ?
Thought it was shift and drag ? Don't remember now, been ages since I played MTW.

I know that for example when you have many troops in a castle or the same army, you can use Ctrl to select some of them and move them elsewhere. This new stack will now be sorted in exactly the order you clicked them while holding Ctrl. If you have a general, you could simply do this to all units except him and then move him into the now reformed army again, he will get the first slot anyway. If your army is not led by a general, just divide it by letting the units that are supposed to be first in line move elsewhere and then move the others into that new stack in the order you want them to be.
Sounds somewhat complicated but maybe CA will add switching unit cards with the next patch, I would appreciate it. As it is now, you can click, hold and drag a unit card even during battles, but it's of no use, it will only fit into the same slot where it was before.![]()

It would sure come in handy when trying to use a Captain to lead an army. I want to use a mounted knight unit not a unit of peasants as my Captain.

I hope I am not stating the obvious, but the best method I've found to organize to some extent is to use Control/c-group, control/i-group,control/m-group, and control/b-group. This of course will group each of your troop types with a numbered tab.
The groups will be numbered 1 though 4 in the order you chose them. In the order I gave above it would read from left to right.
group 1 (cavalry), group 2 (infantry), group 3 (missiles), and group 4 (artillery)
If you want you can further separate them such as heavy infantry from light by doing the control select and group during this process.
Once you are through you can un-group each set individually and they will be left in the order you set up. However re-grouping and un-grouping any individual set will cause the rest of the un-grouped bunch to shuffle exactly one unit from the left side of the queue to the right.
Also re-grouping the entire army will reset everything back to the way it was originally.
This doesn't give one the total control you may be looking for, but it does help.
Cheers

Artillery adds dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl.
Why? Or why not, as you like it. The task of a captain is to sit in the back, give morale support and stay alive (in the TW games, that is), and a unit of peasants can handle that just fine. The heavy cavalry is in that case free to do as it´s intended: charge into the fray, something you shouldn´t do with your general´s unit, lest you risk to lose him.Originally Posted by Hosakawa Tito
I´ll agree it sort of feels wrong, the commander of the whole army being a member of the worst unit in it, but within the mechanics of the TW game it would work without problems.
Thanks. Yeah I agree it's useless in the battle screen as it currently is.Originally Posted by Husar
I'd like to see this implemented as well.
Me too. Actually I really should use captains more often, as I only ever use Generals. Man of the hour and stuff incentive...Originally Posted by Hosakawa Tito
Yes this is true of the battle map unit cards. My question is about the strategy map unit cards. Thanks for the input though. That's useful to know for the battle map !Originally Posted by Forward Observer
What I am interested in is to move, for example, the last 3 units in the following army (on the campaign map) to the front of the army i.e a reshuffle of the army within itself:
That way it 's easier for me to see what is in the army. Although this one is pretty well organised it's still silly to have to move everything but the last 3 and first 5 units, out of the army, and then move everything back in again to have the "formation" you want.

With Ctrl?? You mean Ctrl+Drag the unit cards in the campaign map? Hmmm, I should try this out.Originally Posted by Husar
I had put dragging into the patch wish list a week(?) ago or so. I hope they've seen it and put it in. Otherwise I might get "medieval" on them:P
No, really. Come on CA, put it in. The whole game needs to be streamlined in many control aspects.

You can ctrl+drag on the camp map, only it's not a great deal of use unless you can shuffle within the army.
Good job on the post in the wishlist.
