Why? Or why not, as you like it. The task of a captain is to sit in the back, give morale support and stay alive (in the TW games, that is), and a unit of peasants can handle that just fine. The heavy cavalry is in that case free to do as it´s intended: charge into the fray, something you shouldn´t do with your general´s unit, lest you risk to lose him.

I´ll agree it sort of feels wrong, the commander of the whole army being a member of the worst unit in it, but within the mechanics of the TW game it would work without problems.

If your army is not led by a general, just divide it by letting the units that are supposed to be first in line move elsewhere and then move the others into that new stack in the order you want them to be.

Sounds somewhat complicated but maybe CA will add switching unit cards with the next patch, I would appreciate it. As it is now, you can click, hold and drag a unit card even during battles, but it's of no use, it will only fit into the same slot where it was before.
Thanks. Yeah I agree it's useless in the battle screen as it currently is.
I'd like to see this implemented as well.

Me too. Actually I really should use captains more often, as I only ever use Generals. Man of the hour and stuff incentive...

The groups will be numbered 1 though 4 in the order you chose them. In the order I gave above it would read from left to right.

group 1 (cavalry), group 2 (infantry), group 3 (missiles), and group 4 (artillery)

If you want you can further separate them such as heavy infantry from light by doing the control select and group during this process.

Once you are through you can un-group each set individually and they will be left in the order you set up. However re-grouping and un-grouping any individual set will cause the rest of the un-grouped bunch to shuffle exactly one unit from the left side of the queue to the right.

Also re-grouping the entire army will reset everything back to the way it was originally.

This doesn't give one the total control you may be looking for, but it does help.

    Cheers
Yes this is true of the battle map unit cards. My question is about the strategy map unit cards. Thanks for the input though. That's useful to know for the battle map !

What I am interested in is to move, for example, the last 3 units in the following army (on the campaign map) to the front of the army i.e a reshuffle of the army within itself:

That way it 's easier for me to see what is in the army. Although this one is pretty well organised it's still silly to have to move everything but the last 3 and first 5 units, out of the army, and then move everything back in again to have the "formation" you want.
