From what I've seen of the trailers (I saw the new trailer at the showing of Apocalypto) I really like the tack they have taken. As I tried to demonstrate in the essay by the Classicist Hanson, I posted earlier on the subject, I think this captures the quasi-legendary quality of the battle and how the Greek wished to see themselves vis-a-vis the enemy.

Wow this trailer is even better than the first one, 300 looks like a great movie. Even without all the odd monsters and the wierd-looking Persians, the battle of (I forget................. Thermopalaye or something?) is movie material. And sorry to go off-topic, but how was Apocalypto?
Ugh, puke, barf, gag...

I ask because it's usually something like that which causes outbursts like this, needless to say I dissagree completely.
A fine film.Originally Posted by CaesarAugustus

I concur. Looks a bit too Hollywood for my taste.Originally Posted by Comrade Alexeo

Aww - they took out the "fighting in the shade" line from the first trailer; it was the best line in it.
I can't help feeling that Hollywood has got to the stage where the trailers are better than the films. (I even thought that of Return of the King, and I loved that movie). Or maybe it's just pop videos corrupting my sensibilities.
Indeed. Not that it would alter the fact that I still have the urge to simultaneously wince and roll my eyes whenever I see either of the trailers.Originally Posted by econ21

I agree, though--with both the general sentiment and the RotK trailer.

Unless by Hollywood you mean the overuse of 'special effects' and the expense of things like suspenseful battles and acting quality. Take the difference between Ben-Hur or Gladiator(which uses relatively few CG effects as far as I can see, exept for city building) and, say, LOTR. Not that LOTR was a bad movie.
Looking forward to it, the cinematograpgy looks superb and stylish. You need to remember this film derives from the graphic novel '300' by Frank Miller and is only very loosely based on the historical narrative. It is pure testosterone, fantasy and just a bit of history all mixed up and it looks very different to the dull swords and sandals epics we have been handed in the last few years.
Read the graphic novel first, then watch the trailer and you will see that even from the short trailer it is, for once, extremely faithful to the graphic novel original. The graphic novel itself is worth owning as a piece of art with stunning visuals.
It looks great and unless Hollywood truly mess it up between the snippets we have see on the trailer I am pretty sure I will enjoy this film.
It will be released in March 2007

Okay, now I want to see it even more.
If its from a graphic novel and has little actual attatchment to the Spartan 300 of history, it relieves some of the guilt.
The movie looked awesome (rhinos anyone?)
