And yet, amusing though all this is, some part of me wonders if it is ethical (or even legal) to publish the names of party members? After all, the BNP isn't illegal. Its distasteful, but is that enough?

I was also slightly struck by the dog that didn't bark. Where were the meetings at which people foamed at the mouth about the ****** *****s who were coming over here and taking our jobs and women? You can't help feeling the guardian must have been disappointed by the investigation which when it comes down to it amounts to "BNP has a few members in London shock".

Overall I'm not sure the article doesn't actually help the BNP which may not be too good.

The article does no real damage to the BNP. He is supposedly there undercover yet doesn't exactly happen upon anything particularly damning. He has revealed that the BNP are an anti immigration party, and that several of their members have partners that are of the "non anglo saxon" variety, and that a few of the more well to do are members. So what?

The media and government tells us to the loathe the BNP, in reality most people don't really give a damn about them either way. Wherever they have won council seats in the past, they've usually performed poorly. They're policies are non existent, and their focus on immigration to the detriment of all else has turned them into a bit of a joke. They seem to have three types of "follower", the bigoted and fanatical xenophobe, the disillusioned working class white person that see's immigration as the root of all evil (they took our jobs/women!) and the racist thug.

Unfortunately the portrayal by the media of the ethnic minority as either a gun toting gangster or terrorist fanatic only fuels parties like the BNP, and provides them with more members from the disillusioned masses.

I wouldn't be too surprised if all the other "members" he met were also infiltrators from Special Branch, MI5, Shin Beth etc etc etc.

This may sound cynical but I worked for an international NGO that had to shut down the US branch because over half the (active) members turned out to be FBI agents....

Sounds a bit like the IRA. That practically got to the point where every single member was an undercover agent, all of them being as ruthless as possible to ensure their cover wasn't blown. The secret services' greatest victory over themselves.
