Thread: Milanese Banner\Wagon
Quickening 21:44 12-18-2006
Remember the rumoured supply wagons and how some people claimed to have seen them in the game? I always wondered if they were confusing it with the banner that I often see the armies of Milan with. It is either a banner or a wagon depending on where you look at the mouse tooltip

Anyway, apparently it increases morale for all nearby troops. I have never played as Milan and am wondering if you can build them. Are they the only nation to get them?

As the enemy army fled I ordered all my archers to fire their burning arrows at it to see if I could destroy it. It took one hell of a lot of flaming arrows but didn't burn. Wonder if they can be burnt.

Anyway I took a pretty screenshot of the one I saw earlier just for those who may not have seen one yet.

That's a Caraccio Standard. Venice also gets them.

I've seen those as well. Can they be destroyed ? or not ?

Funny thing is the guys who defend that are supposed to have swords (IIRC) but they only use their spears.

Ahhhh!, I want one!
Guess the English dont get the chance though...

I too presume that it raises moral for nearby troops, though I cant imagine how lugging that thing around the Alps in winter makes you a happier soldier...

My second guess is that its culverin bait... Well.. I'm going to shoot it, regardless of what else is in range...

Going on crusades gives you the chance of a "great cross", which is the same thing stat wise.

Before the patch, you could not move these things in or out of cities on the battlemap!

Not only can you build them, but you sometimes get them as reward for
completing the nobles' missions. As a very early infantry, the crew is not too
shabby, but the wagon slows you down too much, same as any siege engine.

I brought one with me on my Milan Campaign crusade, and the buggers deserted, while at sea no less. Hope the damn thing sunk.

Just drop the standard then :P

Has anyone tried these things in sieges/bridge battles?

I think you can plug wall breaches with them and in some cases a few of them might block a bridge too. Assuming that the enemy troops cannot move them...

Hehe, yeah, I love them . I know they're somewhat historical, but they just have the right amount of nonsense in them to make me laugh.

Baldwin_the_Pilgrim : "My lord, my lord, you HAVE to see my latest invention !"
Commander : "*sigh*. Baldwin, what is this thing ?"
Baldwin_the_Pïlgrim : "It's a big towed cross, m'lud !"
C : "Yes, yes I can see that, obviously. May I perchance inquire as to the point of asking my men to push that thing into battle ? Does it churn the heathens into mincemeat with vicious hidden barbs, or cast wicked greek fire upon them to give them a taste of the hellish flames they deserve maybe ?"
B : "Err...no."
C : "Send huge boulders flying into their ranks ?"
B : "Nu-uh. But...but m'lud, it's a CROSS ! And it's BIG !"
C : "Yes, well, thank you Baldwin, but my knights already have big crosses on their shields, tabards, horses, swords and helmets. I don't think a towering wooden one will be of any more help."
B : "Can't have too many crosses, m'lud."
C : "... yes, yes I suppose you're right"
B : "And of course, our lord savior is in heaven, you know. He'll have less trouble seeing a BIG TOWED CROSS from up there."
C : "Notre-Dame, you're right ! OK LADS, YOU HEARD HIM ! PUSH THAT THING !"

You think that's silly?

Early bishop: "Oh m'lud, we've got this new idea for a temple, right?"
Early lord: "Uh-huh, a new temple to celebrate Jesus Christ Our Lord, right?"
Bishop: "Yeah... and y'know what the gimmick will be?"
Lord: "I can scarce begin to imagine."
Bishop: "The whole building will be..."
Lord: "Yes?"
Bishop: "...will be..."
Lord: "Yes?!"
Bishop: "...will be..."
Lord: "Oh for God's sake, this isn't friggin' Pop Idol, get on with it!"
Bishop: "...cross shaped!"
Lord: "Oh. My. God."
Bishop: "Precisely, lord!"

When facing mongols and their super-dread generals, Great crosses / Standards could be very useful. They can also block streets in cities very well, so you can stab them in the back :)

Can flaming arrows set them on fire?
