The Italic and bold H are hoplites at and angle, like this / or \.

U can use a variation of it. The idea is to make ur army DEEP too, not just LONG. Keep troops on the sides, so if the AI tries to outflank u can stop the flanking manuver, and use ur cavarly to crush it.
