    Default Carthaginian Recruitment in Italy

By 243 BC the Qart Hadastim had taken southern Italy from Capua to Arpi, and held everything south of that line (Rhegion, Tarento, all of Sicily). I have built level 2 govs everywhere I can, but can only recruit classic Greek Hoplite etc. in Syracuse, Messina and Rhegion, while I can recruit nothing at all in Capua. I built up both the native and auxillary MIC buildings at least three levels, to the 7500 mnai building (can't remeber the name in Punic).

    1. Is it intended that Carthage not be able to recruit anyting but mercs from Capua and north?

    2. It's now 240 BC, Hamilcar Barca is married with one daughter, gov of Capua, very famous (7 command stars, eats triarii for breakfast), Hannibal not born yet. I always thought that he was born in 247 BC. Am I wrong or is it dynamic or random?

    3. The Romans have shown considerable strategic good sense on many occasions. They currently have stopped attacking me (they just lose all the time) and are busy expanding into Gaul, Germania, Illyria and further. I hold southern Italy and Sicily, could probably take Rome anytime. Say I do, will the Roman reform periods happen at all? Even if they expand massively north and west? I had read that the Romans needed to hold certain cities for the reforms to happen.

EB rocks! I wonder how much better 1.0 will be.

Oh sorry a lagniappe- there are several places where there is a stone circle marking a wonder, but nothing in the associated city. Syracuse is one, there's another city in southern spain. Placeholders?

    1. yes
    2. There is no scripted birth events. Hamalcar Barca is already born at the start of the game, and therefore in the family tree already, but Hannibal's birth will not be a scripted event. Births are random and you have to create your own Hannibal by sending a young general with tactical training to command battles and build up his traits.
    3. As far as I know the triggers are the same for the AI as far as the reforms go, so yes they wont happen.

He's called Hamilcar. Barca IRC was a title awarded to him. Much like Sun Tzu.

Is there a 'Barcid' trait for people like Hamiclar? I ask because I have a general Hasdrubal who is 'Anti-Barcid', and the latter would be strange without the former.

Barca is an epithet meaning "lightning" or something close to it.

The Barcids, which became a sort of group with Hamilcar as a figurehead wanted to expand Carthage's power throughout the West Mediterranean while the Anti-Barcids opposed that and consolidate control over Africa. It's all described in the traits.
