You can't have both. It's one or the other. Whichever you accept precludes any further offers of the other order.
Age and treachery will defeat youth and skill every time.
Isn't there a file that says what province can have which guild in it. Can someone post that for me or anyone else who wants to see it.
You can look in the export_descr_unit file and scroll down to the Templar Knights........it will say which factions are allowed to have them.
You can also look in the export_descr_guild file and see what it actually takes to receive a Templar guild
I got the Templars, once.
Where can I find that export_descr_guild file?

I always seem get Templar Knights over Hosp's Knights.
I know the Knights of Santiago are Spain only....maybe one other faction.
HRE is the only one who has Teutonic Knights.
I think there are 6+ Factions that get Templar and Hosp Knights.
Again.....you can look in the export_descr_guild file to see how to obtain them and the export_descr_units to see who get's them.
hundurinn,
After you get the v1.1 patch....run the extracting tool thing for all files.
Once you run the tool you will see the file in your "data" folder
You can't have both. You get one or the other, unless you capture a town with that guild in it. The main problem is the hospitaller chapter house is far far easier to get then the templar's. In order to get the templars you need a couple of good crusades, and a governor with 5+ chivalry siting in a town for quite awhile. Even then though it could take 50 turns, really you'll only get the templar's guild if the territory is predisposed to already get it. Inverness is a prime example.Originally Posted by EasyCo1

By the way, do the Templar have anything on the Hospitaliers?
I have the Hospitaliers in my game, and I love them. Their guilds are easy to
get, so I build them in many cities and castles. This way you can retrain them. They get two armour upgrades, which brings them quite high. They
have a great charge, and they are disciplined enough not to charge without
orders. Finally, their upkeep is less than 80% of the upkeep of similar units.
Why would I want the Templars?
More of CA's head in a mix masher when it comes to history; the Templars were the oldest and largest fighting order. Maybe they were thinking of the Order of St Lazarus and changed the name at the last second to Templar? Now leper knights, that would be cool.Originally Posted by BigTex

Indeed the Templar's were the strongest in M2TW's timeframe, but getting them is a a royal pain. They also lack anything really at their headquarters. I would have expected to see at least the equivilent of the other bank building on that one.Originally Posted by Mega Dux Bob
Templar's have nothing on hospitallers. Technically they were better armor then them to start, but thier stats don't reflect that notation. They also have those more unorganized charges from when compared to the hospitallers.
As a side note though the hospitallers were around till at least the 18th century, far outliving the templar's.

They're still around to this day, they just don't fight anymore. They're devoted to medicinal work primarily these days, having lost most of their fighting strength after Napoleon took Malta.Originally Posted by BigTex
In the game, Templars are strictly worse than Hospitallers. They have the same stats except Templars will charge without orders and can't get armour upgrades. Also, the St John's guild buildings give you a health bonus.
Templars buildings should get some form of trade bonus to reflect their creation of banking practices.
