Horsebreeder guilds and France-query please

As France I see in the building browser that only cities can host french horsebreeder guilds. To build cavalry in a city I need a merchants guild to get merchant cavalry otherwise I can't get the point srequired to build a horsebreeder guild, but you can have only I guild / city. ergo no horsebreeder guild in a city or anywhere.....

What am I missing, do castles get horsebreeder guilds even if they are not in the building browser?

Is this situation the same for other factions?

I remain my usual confused self, any clarification greatfully (and gratefully) accepted.

I had the same problem.....

I ended up adding a whole new insert into the export_descr_guild file. I added this at the bottom with "xxx" being whatever sword unit you recruit in your city.

Two real possibilities there. Well, three. First, build a merchants guild, recruit lots of militia cavalry, then destroy the merchants guild. The points accumulated towards the horse breeders guild may well get you an offer there, so hold out for it. Second, recruit tons of mounted units at a castle, then convert it into a town. All those points should definitely get you an offer there, so hold out for it. Third, just globally recruit tons of mounted. It takes a lot longer, but eventually you can get an offer for one. I had a horse breeders guild in Iasi as the Byzantines, and they can't recruit cav from cities either. However, I had probably 2/3 my troops were horse archers so I recruited lots and lots of cavalry.

what does horsebreeder guild do? i havent seen one and ive been playing solidly since the game came out

I think they just need to allow Horse Breeder's guilds have area or faction wide benefits.

Gives an expeirence bonus to cavalry.

As france just get a city to the huge stage and build some mounted longbows.

Maybe you should really look at the buiding browser. Every city can build cavalry without the need of merchant guild.

I see now the best way.

Built merchants guild gets lots merchant cav, later on when possible build military academy and train Gendarmes/mounted horse archers and destroy merchant guild. I guess I won't get it this game as things have already finished way short of time required.

Unless you build Military academy series then you won't be able to get global benefit from upgraded guild.

I doubt the horse breeders guild will benefit lancers, as I'm pretty sure they are considered "knights" by the game. Those gain experience on creation from the swordsmith guild buildings. The horse breeders guild gives experience to cavalry, not knights. The master and HQ buildings should benefit the mounted archers and Scots Guard units, but the mailed/feudal/chivalric/noble knights and lancers/gendarmes will probably not gain any benefit.

Actualy bonus to knights benefit to all "knight" units : those that have the knight trait in the EDU.
Bonus to cavalry benefit to all cavalry units, including those with the "knight" trait.

2 ways I successfully got a horse breeder guild as France,

- Convert castle to town (after building lots of cheapo cavalry in said castle)
- Build merchant guild , recruit lots of horses, destroy merchant guild, hope you get horse breeder.

Unless I'm sadly mistaken, you should also be able to get one from recruiting french mounted archers, but that's pretty late into the game, and odds are you'll have another guild way way before that... then again, if you don't mind your rating with that guild shooting down, you can always destroy it!

It sounds a bit weird that this guild is restricted to cities, but then again, the french get enough bonus on their knights that this might be a bit over the top.
