My loading times are fine, but I get terrible lag/framerate on the strategic map in areas with lots of trees (Germany and Gaul mostly).

I dont know why people's games run slow unless theyre on year old computers or something.

My game runs smooth as silk and Im always on highest, hugest settings, and even often alt-tab the game to windows to cut and paste screenies, surf the internet, etc.

The biggest problem of EB is memory. You need 1GB RAM in order to play the game decently and even then, you better shut down every single other process running on the background. Only with 1.5GB RAM and a really good processor can EB without any problems.

I disagree, I ran EB .74 with just a 2ghz processor, 512 mbs of ram and 128 mb video memory. I played with low AA, and most of the single check marks enabled, on large, with most variable settings on high. Loaded a little slower, but the game ran fine, it also had no problems running RTR PE fine and overall was quite good. Then again, it really depends on what your after as far as running fine. If you need huge settings and full graphics to the max, if you don't have something very nice, it's going to be slow, but if you settle for medium graphic and maybe large settings then your load times will be comparatively fine.

The only real change I've noticed between my old system and my upgrade was the fact that I can run a entire video production all in real time. I LOVE IT!! Boot up my myriad of audio editng programs, leave them open so if changes need to be made I can do so, then run Adobe After Effects, Premiere, and Photoshop all at once, again leaving those open and then do a Render with the Highest setting possible, which on the old system was one of the few things that would lag it off the earth, and watch other videos while waiting for the render to finish. Love it, love it, love it. I should get it all running and then open 3DSMax as well. However this is quite OT.

Gah!!!!! Who cares about loading times when you get a good game play experience at the end. I cope fine on "speed" settings with unit scale set at "normal". Waits get longer as the game progresses.

In other words: It takes a very long time to load, but it's worth it in the end. End your time with that RTR thing and come to the side of true gameplay and accuracy!

I second this. I used to have MAJOR lag and load/turn time problems, then I got myself some more RAM: result - no lag at all, and the load time is nice and fast:

I forgot to say that altough EB needs a lot of memory, it is nowhere near as much for battle map as it is for campaign map! With a lack of memory, the game should stutter ALOT in the campaign map. I know this because in my grandpa's computer, which only has 512MB of RAM, could not play the campaign map decently, mine however, with 1GB, did. But, when one day the memory usage went above the 1024MB, the game suddenly started running horribly (in the campaign map of corse), so I minimized the game, shut down several processes like messenger, steam, etc, and game return back to normal. Might had been just a coincidence, but considering the evidence, I doubt very much.

One other thing you might want to do is turn shadows off on the campaign map and battles, that helps my computer run a lot quicker
