Thread: Bribery

    Default Bribery

One of the things I loved doing after completing the original MTW with several different factions was putting cheats on such as .deadringer. and bribing every army that I possibly could, in an attempt to get not only a multi-ethnic military but one with as many different units as possible.

I'm still on my first campaign (have just exterminated Carribean/Habana) and despite having played 670 or so turns on 0.5, I've only ever made one successful bribe attempt, and that was hardly useful - some rebels in Wessex disbanded. Others won't give me the time of day, even with 5 or 6 * diplomats. having conquered all of the known world its not like they would be joining the losing side.

So, firstly can anyone tell me the cheats and how to enter them, and also give me any hints/tips about how to bribe successfully.

Well, i don't think you'll be able to get a multi-ethnic army, as troops that you can't build disband instead of joining your faction :(

The same thing is happening to me too. i can't bribe anything. The only time i have ever gotten the chance to was when two uints of militia asked for 1400 to disband. Come on... 1400? I could kill them easily with units made from half of that much money.

^^ A general asked for 60k to join me and have his 4 unit army disband...and it was made up of militia!

I know the problem in my case is that i don't keep any diplomats running around doing stuff, so the ones i do have are of low skill :(

At least since the patch it seems it's actually possible to bribe rebels... Before I used cheats to max out my money and still couldn't bribe a single unit of rebel militia.

Post-patch I bribed a rebel settlement (Riga) with some troops in it with no big problem (can't remember the sum, but quite affordable indeed, and it was first part of the campaign, so no big money).

Alas, all troops disbanded and the city rebelled back in 3 turns.

Prepatch I managed to bribe Wales early on as the English for around 6k which was reasonable. Then on, I couldn't bribe anything ever.

You can cheat your way to a good diplomat by using things like give_trait this SmoothTalker 3 with him selected. Add some other traits and he can bribe most things. It's still hellishly expensive (around 15k for a full stack) but at least doable in that case. I simply don't bother in any case. Just build a stack and kill it. It's cheaper and you get some free experience.

I've played and finished two campaigns pre-patch and play one patched now and NEVER made a successful bribe.

One reason why diplomats are mostly no use to me other than shoving money to the popery.

Plus I've yet to see a princess apear. I've tried not having generals get married numerous times, but no princess ever came off it, even though there are correctly aged ( 16+) royal women in the family tree.

So for me bribery and princesses are only what other factions can use, not me as the player. Check into that CA...

The bribery issue likely harkens back to the old TW:R issue that really did need a fixing-they just went way overboard and essentially made everything so costly no one used it. However, I was hoping they would see that and go happy medium for TW:M2. Apparently not as it turns out. In Rome, the ease with which you could buy your way to victory (or a massive family of the opposition's best generals, etc etc) really did need addressing. But to go so far the other direction that it is for all intents and purposes it is eliminated from the game is not a fix. Bribery might as well not exist under current circumstances. And so it followed into TW:M2, and we have 18th century prices in a 12th century game..... maybe we need to add an event called Mercantilism........

I remember this friend's girlfriend, she'd buy the whole map not just the generals. Although the generals were easy enough for me to make a huge family out of.

M2:TW. You know I tried to bribe Jebe and his stack, just for fun. I gave the diplomat max bribery traits and my coffer +140K Florins so that I have 500K total.

    Guess how much ?

Jebe was bribed for (approximately) 350K Florins. I think it may have something to do with your total florin reserve, because otherwise it would be impossible.

Naturally being able to bribe Jebe or Subedei is funny anyway, whatever the florin amount.

Bribery is so nerfed now. And generals aren't even immortal like original MTW.

I also like to have local native troops. I did this in MTW through bribery, in M2:TW I manage this by hiring mercs. It gives a lot more flavor and colorful battles. You can mod the mercenaries file to your liking.

I've run some tests with bribery and I find no matter how many florins I have I can't bribe anyone at anytime. perhaps I need maxed out diplomats too? That's another thing I don't understand with CA, they seem to break systems that don't work, rather than simply remove them. I.e. with protectorates and bribery. Why not simply eliminate the features, rather than leaving them in and making them valueless? I don't get the strategy here at all.

It helps to have maxed diplomats. You can use the template above to test.

I forgot earlier you may need this as well:
    "add_money 40000"

You can only at 40K at once, you have to repeat the cheat several times to add more. To remove money put "add_money -40000".

As I mentioned earlier Jebe (the famous Mongol general) was bribed for 350K so you need a decent amount of cash for high generals. For normal ones you may need a whole lot less.
