Adding to the family tree - new levels

Is it possible to add a third generation to the starting family tree?
It looks like the aztecs have a third generation. However when I try it the game crashes.
This is going to be my workaround to the succession problem.
If there is already an adult son to the faction heir then when the king dies the succession should work ok... hopefully.
I hope someone can help me with this

What do you mean when you try to add the third generation they CTD? Add were? Ingame?

Try using last names for all characters that will appear in subsequent generations. Check out how the Venice character record is set up. I did it with my Irish faction and it works. I was even able to have a princess begin the game already married. It shows up on the family tree and everything...It took me about a day or so to figure it out, but I got it.
